With the Houston Texans getting into the flow of OTAs we wanted to look at the 2012 rookie class a little closer. We enlisted the help of Shane Hallam of Draft Countdown to give us some quick thoughts on the entire rookie class of the Texans. We asked Hallam also who the rookies compare to that are in the NFL which give us a baseline for what to look for when camp opens up. Take a look at let us know what you think. The Rookies (Part 3) Delano Johnson – Very intriguing pass rush prospect. Really nice frame and powerful bull rusher. Played special teams throughout…
On Thursday, J.J. Watt posted a photo via his twitter asking his followers if they like his “possible” new look for the 2012 season. Honestly Watt looks like he belongs in a Sci-Fi movie, but as long as he makes it happen like he did in his rookie season in 2011 what does it matter? Either way what do you think of the new look? Which look do we like better? Let J.J. Watt know via Twitter or in our comment section below. You can follow…
I was asked a question on Twitter about the Houston Texans being on HBO’s Hard Knocks, and the question was a hypothetical one but a question I had to think about none the less. The question was “Would the exposure of Hard Knocks be a good thing for the Texans?” When I first thought about it my instant reaction was no, there was no way that the Texans could carry Hard Knocks with the personnel they had. I was thinking about how would the headliners on our team like Matt Schaub, and Andre Johnson carry the show when they are…
According to Fox Sports, Mark Berman, the Houston Texans have turned down the offer to appear on the HBO’s series “Hard Knock’s”. The series follows NFL teams around for their training camp and preseason games and showcases the in and outs of how a NFL organization is run and get into the personal space of the players on the team. The show recently has been labeled as a “distraction” to NFL teams, but it is one of the best series for NFL fans of recent memory. With the Texans coming off of the most successful season in franchise history, the…
This is our first installment from our newest State of the Texans blogger, Charles Christy “I’m excited to compete with a top-notch offense and defense.” It is well known that defensive mastermind Wade Phillips has a knack for putting his players in a position to be successful. One player to watch as the Texans progress through OTA’s and into the pre-season is big nose tackle Hebron “Loni” Fangupo. Fangupo is an older player that took two years off to dedicate to a church mission – played at USC, then later transferred and finished up at BYU. At 6’1” 323lbs, Fangupo’s strength…

Another year, another weekend of filtering through angry tweets and knee-jerk reactions from Texans fans. The way that I’ve noticed the past few years is that there are two types of fan reactions in this base’ either they’re going to hate the picks if it isn’t a skill position, or they’re going to go out of their way to say they trust the Texans front office to make the right decisions. I’ve been guilty of this as well, but the one thing that I’ve taught myself is to not pass judgment before they play a single snap in an NFL…
With the 195th overall pick, the Houston Texans selected offensive tackle Nick Mondek from Purdue. Tale of the Tape Height: 6-5 Weight: 305 lbs. 40 yard dash: 4.84 Mondek has started for the Boilermakers over the past two seasons and slowly worked his way up the draft boards as the process moved on. At Purdue, Mondek started his career as a defensive tackle (2008-2009) and, despite his red shirt freshman year, he appeared in all the games for the Boilermakers as a defensive tackle. In those two seasons as a defensive tackle he posted 15 total tackles and 2 sacks. During the…
TEXANS PROFILE: JARED CRICK With the 126th pick of the 2012 NFL Draft the Houston Texans select Jared Crick, DE from the University of Nebraska. The Texans hit a homerun with this pick deep in the fourth round not only did they get exceptional value, but they got a second round talent deep in the draft. I believe Jared Crick could have been drafted much higher, but due to a torn pectoral injury that ended his senior season prematurely didn’t help going into this years’ draft. Crick was rumored to be good only because of the attention that Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh…
With the 161st overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select… Randy Bullock, K, Texas A&M University Vital Stats Height: 5’9” Weight: 205 lbs. Arms: 29 ¼” Hands: 8 3/8” With the recent departure of Neil Rackers to the Redskins, the Texans had a vital need at the kicker position and they filled it with the best available kicker, Randy Bullock, TAMU. Bullock is so darn accurate, it’s almost scary with an 88% (29 of 33) accuracy rate on field goals. Bullock’s longest FG during his Aggie career was 52 yards and he is 13 of 16…
With the draft talk starting to die down, sadly, things have begun to shift to the current roster for the Texans. And after an offseason of multiple free agent losses, the primary concern has fallen on a trio of upcoming 2013 free agents that fans are already worried about losing. In what I’ve labeled “The Trifecta,” these three players are left tackle Duane Brown, outside linebacker Connor Barwin and quarterback Matt Schaub. After the release of right tackle Eric Winston, the trading of DeMeco Ryans and Jacoby Jones being handed his walking papers, Houston has undoubtedly cleared up double digits…

Short of one of the top prospects in the draft getting caught with either a dead girl or a live boy, I think I’ve finally arrived to a point where I feel good about calling my shot for the 2012 NFL Draft. It’s funny to go back to some of my earliest mocks and see who has stayed consistently in consideration for some of these picks and who has moved up, down or even out in consideration. But, without further ado, here is me going on the record for what I think would be a decent 2012 draft for your Houston Texans….
By this point of the offseason, with free agency news becoming next to non-existent, most of us have resorted to only watching tape and reading about some of our favorite prospects and how they’d fit with the Texans. This includes, of course, scouring the internet for the latest Mock Draft out there and agreeing, disagreeing or flat out hating who the national “experts” think is a lock for Battle Red next season. Every year, I usually take an average out of the most common five prospects that get consistently mocked to the Texans and break them down to see who…
