Texans Talking to Karl Dorrell for Coaching Vacancy

Reports from Houston Fox Sports director, Mark Berman, that the Houston Texans are in early talks with Miami Dolphins quarterback coach Karl Dorrell. Dorrell has been with the Dolphins for the past 4 years, as the wide receiver and quarterbacks coach. Dorrell is being interviewed to replace ex-quarterback coach Greg Knapp who accepted the Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator position at the beginning of the week

Dorrell was the head coach at UCLA where he posted a 35-27 record in his 5 seasons as the Bruins head coach. He spent time with head coach Gary Kubiak in Denver with they both coached for the Broncos in 2000-2002, Kubiak as the offensive coordinator and Dorrell as the wide receiver coach. If this is the fit for the Texans only time will tell, but it is apparent what Kubiak is looking for with his recent statement today, someone who will mesh with Matt Schuab quickly.

Expect a decision to be made soon, so the Texans can start getting ready for the busy offseason.

I’m still confused on team permissions–since it looks like this is a lateral move does Miami have right of refusal? I think I read that they already refused the Texans once before, when they wound up hiring Knapp. I guess they could throw in a gratuitous title (asst. DC or something) to give the position a bump.
