Johnson and Watt Honored by HLSR

Today the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo honored two Houston Texans by naming Andre Johnson and J.J. Watt the Grand Marshals of the 2012 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Downtown Rodeo Parade. After what was the best season in Texans franchise history, both Johnson and Wattt have been asked to lead this major Houston event.

The Presdient of the Rodeo had this to say about their selection:

“There is no better way to celebrate the kickoff of the Show than to have two of Houston’s very own star athletes leading the way,” said Skip Wagner, president of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “The Show and the Texans share a very special relationship, and to have Andre and J. J. start the parade is definitely a testament to that partnership and each organization’s devotion to the city.” (Taken from HLSR Press Release)

It is a great honor for Johnson and Watt to be selected to be the figure heads of this occassion. Johnson who has been with the Texans since 2003 is the most decorated player to put on a Texans uniform, and was rewarded this past season with his first playoff apperance and win. Watt on the other hand has taken the Texans fans by storm by proving he was worth the #11 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Watt has help transform the Texans defense and culture since his arrival, and looks to be the next big superstar for the Texans.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a charity that benefits youth, supports education, and facilitates better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentation. Since its beginning in 1932, the Show has committed approximately $283 million to the youth of Texas. The 2012 Show runs Feb. 28 – March 18.
