Gary is Mad: Texans Mini-Camp

Here are a few notes from the Texans Mini-Camp on Tuesday:

Texans Mini-Camp Day 1

– Head Coach Gary Kubiak showed his displeasure for rookie offensive lineman Brandon Brooks for being over weight on weigh- ins today. Kubiak wants Brooks to get his weight down for on-field reasons.  This will be something to watch in the coming months.

– The Texans have invited wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker, linebackers Keith Browner,  Prescott Burgess, and former Texans fullback (’02-’05) Moran Norris to mini-camp. Kubiak was pleased with all four workouts and said all four players will be here for the remainder of mini-camp.  A decision will be made after mini-camp whether any of them will stay heading into training camp.

Moran Norris despite being a 12 year NFL veteran still impressed today on the field. To the coaches, he still seems in top playing shape today.

Mike Sims-Walker was described by Kubiak as looking good today on the field and practiced well. He likes Sims-Walker’s size and what he has done in the past as a receiver with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hebron Fangupo returned to practice since injuring his MCL the first day of OTAs. Kubiak said Fangupo was fine health wise but is behind in terms of football.

– Kubiak pointed at the need to shore up the wide receiver and fullback depth before heading into camp. He also called guys like Troy Nolan, Quintin Demps and Tim Dobbins the heart and soul of the team, stating guys like those are the ones that make your team what they are.

Case Keenum is still impressing as a quarterback and has grown even more a rookie after 10 camp practices. He is pushing for the 3rd quarterback spot against veteran John Beck. It was also pointed out that Kubiak will probably never carry just two quarterbacks on the active roster, especially with the close calls he had last season. Expect three quarterbacks at all times on gamedays in uniform.  The four quarterbacks with the Texans entering today will be the only ones heading into training camp.

I think its great Moran Norris is getting another shoit with the team. He is a true physical and run blocking Fullback. I’d love to see him make the team!!!
