Texans sign Omar Gaither

A day after reserve inside linebacker Keyaron Fox injured his knee in practice which landed him on the injured reserve, today the Houston Texans have agreed to terms with veteran linebacker Omar Gaither.

The 6 year veteran spent 5 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and the 2011 season with the Carolina Panthers, where he started 4 games. Having started 77 games in his career, the 28 year old is on the right side of age when it comes to football. He will provide another veteran presence in a thin linebacker position, with only Tim Dobbins, Bradie James and Mister Alexander as the only healthy players for the Texans. With Brian Cushing  (Flu) Shawn Loisean (Groin) Darryl Sharpton (Leg/hip) and Greg Williams (Leg) all battling their own health issues, the Gaither signing couldn’t have happened at a better time.

At 6-2 and 235 lbs., Gaither will be playing catch up with the defensive playbook and he will not suit up with the Texans this coming Saturday in their preseason opener against Carolina. He will travel with the team and get ready for Monday’s practice with his new team.
