Cushing Ruled Out for Preseason Opener

Despite speculation that linebacker Brian Cushing would play heading into the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, he has been ruled out for the game. According to the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain, Cushing did not even make the flight with the team to Carolina.

After spending two nights in the hospital last week and fighting a virus, Cushing was deemed “good to go” if this was a regular season game. With limited action for the starters, Head Coach Gary Kubiak has decided against bringing him for the trip, with the target for his return for Monday and his preseason debut at home against the San Francisco 49ers.

After a comeback third season, missing Cushing for one preseason game will push Tim Dobbins into the starter’s role opposite of Bradie James. Also look for rookie Shawn Loiseau and second year player Mister Alexander to get the majority snaps from the inside linebacker position.
