Ed Reed Signs a Deal with the Texans

It is a done deal and the Houston Texans have signed free agent safety and future hall of famer, Ed Reed. Reed will come in to fill the hole that starter Glover Quin has left by signing with the Detroit Lions. Reed was picked up this morning by the Texans private jet at his off-season home in Atlanta where they started the pitch for the free agent.

Aaron Wilson, Baltimore Sun, made it clear that the Texans have targeted Reed since the start of the free agency and the contract offer and parameters were discussed prior to meeting with Reed. Reed will be the proven veteran in the back half of the defense to help and try to add a play-maker with ball skills.

Being 34 years old, the reality is that his skills are on the decline but this looks like a deal that will give the Texans some years to develop some young talent behind Reed and starter Daneial Manning. How much Reed has left in the tank is one question, but his presence on the field and lockeroom could be enough to add a confidence level the team has been missing.

In 2012 Reed started all 16 games for the Super Bowl Champion Ravens where he posted 58 total tackles, 4 interceptions and 15 pass deflections.
