Shane Lechler set to visit the Texans

According to multiple sources the Houston Texans are bringing in free agent punter and Texas native Shane Lechler on Thursday for a visit. Lechler has been a staple for the Oakland Raiders as their punter since 2000 when he was drafted out of Texas A&M University in the 5th round (142 overall) in the NFL Draft (2000).

Lechler is considered one of the best punters in NFL history by being named to the NFL’s All Decade Team (2000s), has 7 Pro Bowl Selections and 8 All Pro Selections too. For his career he averages 47.5 yards a punt but 2012 was considered his worst season as a professional.

Originally from East Bernard, Texas, Lechler looks to be finding a place closer to home to close out his Hall of Fame career. The team will not overpay for the 14 year vet, but expect the team possibly to do what it takes to lock up Lechler within reason.

The Texans have no punter under contract at the moment, the team was linked to bringing back last years punter Donnie Jones when free agency opened.
