Digging Deep: Tidbits from the 2012 Season

Looking through numbers from the Houston Texans 2012 season, we came across some interesting stats from last season.

Here are some interesting tidbits from some information we looked through.

18-The Workhorse of the Defense

Danieal Manning was the workhorse of the Texans in 2012. He played in 98.5% of defensive snaps. Only missed 18 plays the entire season including the playoffs.

 

A Full Defensive Game

Manning took 100% of the defensive snaps in 13 games. Departed Glover Quin and Connor Barwin had 8 a piece, J.J Watt had 4, Johnathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson had 3, Bradie James and Brian Cushing with 2 and Whitney Mercilus and Brooks Reed had 1.

 

1309-Offensive Iron Man

Chris Myers was the only Texans offensive player to play in all of the snaps on offense. 1309 to be exact.

989-Arian Needs Help 

Arian Foster had 989 total plays in 2012. Ben Tate and Justin Forsett had 276 combined plays.

 

559 for Andre the Giant

Andre Johnson was second in the NFL in yards after the catch with 559, but 35th in YAC per reception with 5.0. His 112 receptions dropped his yards after the catch.

59- Cushing Patrolling the Middle

In 4 games. Brian Cushing averaged 59 snaps a game. The second inside linebacker Bradie James averaged 30 snaps and Tim Dobbins 7 snaps, respectively.

 

Newton vs. Winston

2011- Eric Winston 1203 snaps

2012- Derek Newton 883 snaps

2011- Eric Winston 9 penalties, 7 sacks, 2 QB hits, 23 hurries.

2012- Derek Newton 8 penalties, 4 sacks, 5 QB hits, 23 hurries.

2011- 1 sack per 137 snaps for Winston

2012- 1 sack per 220 snaps for Newton
