Texans 53 Man Roster: Version 5.0

It’s getting time in Houston for the Texans to make the roster lighter by waiving 15 players. The back end of the roster and outside linebackers seem to be the biggest issues for the roster at the moment.

Here is a look at the roster prediction after preseason game three.

Here was last week edition

Texans 53 Man Roster 5.0

Green denotes Rookies

Offense (24)

Quarterback: Matt Schaub, T.J. Yates, Case Keenum

Runningback: Arian Foster, Ben Tate, Deji Karim

Karim despite taking the lead at third runningback, but there is a good chance that there is better options fixing to come available on the waiver wire. This is a situation to watch moving forward into week one.

Fullback: Greg Jones

Tight End: Owen Daniels, Garrett Graham, Ryan Griffin

Wide Receiver: Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, Keshawn Martin, Lestar Jean, DeVier Posey

Posey is the new addition to the depth chart and it is an upgrade for this season. Bonner’s hamstring injury will probably keep him on the sideline and on the I.R. list.

Offensive Tackles: Duane Brown, Derek Newton, Brennan Williams, Ryan Harris

Offensive Guards: Wade Smith, Ben Jones, Brandon Brooks, David Quessenberry

Center: Chris Myers

Defense (26)

Defensive End: J.J. Watt, Antonio Smith, Jared Crick, Tim Jamison, Chris Jones

Nose Tackle: Earl Mitchell, Terrell McClain

Outside Linebacker: Brooks Reed, Whitney Mercilus, Sam MontgomeryWillie Jefferson, Bryan Braman

There is still little that Trevardo Williams has done to this point, and he will be compared to Montgomery and his progress. The issue with Williams is his initial body frame and how he has adapted to the NFL. Maybe the Texans will sneak him to the practice squad, but roster spots are at a premium.

Inside Linebacker: Brian Cushing, Darryl Sharpton, Tim Dobbins, Joe Mays

Cornerback: Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Brice McCain, Brandon Harris, Roc Carmichael, A.J. Bouye

This is another issue and the Texans, and for a team that usually takes six corner backs. Carmichael and Mack have done little to warrant the last spot on the roster. The Texans could look on the waiver wire for extra help.

Safety: Ed Reed, Danieal Manning, D.J. Swearinger, Shiloh Keo

Swearinger and Keo have been a slight concern and it comes with experience. Keo has a speed issue and is easily exposed in the open field. As for Swearinger, he is learning on the fly and fine tuning his playing style. The safety position has quietly turned into a slight issue without a healthy Reed or Pleasant.

Specialty (3)

Kicker: Randy Bullock

Punter: Shane Lechler

Long Snapper: Jon Weeks

PUP: Alan Bonner

Practice Squad

(ILB) Cameron Collins

  1. TexanTackler says:

after a weak show by dobbins do you think there is any chance he doesn’t make the team? I see you still have collins making the practice squad over Mohamed, how set do you feel that position is?

    • PDS says:

I think Dobbins is not safe, but Collins and Mohamed have been dealing with injuries. This last preseason game is big for all three.

Where was Sharpton for Saints game?
