Texans Friday Notes

The Houston Texans are going to close week one of the 2013 season in San Diego, but this gives an extra day of news compared to other teams. There has been plenty of news coming out of Houston, and majority of it is news worthy for the upcoming season.

– The Texans are still trying to figure out the severity of David Quessenberry’s foot injury, which was suffered during a non-contact play.  There is a decision on if they put him on the season ending I.R. or the I.R. that sets him up to return later in the season.

– Reports are that Wade Smith worked a complete practice, which impressed Coach Gary Kubiak. Getting Smith back could be a good thing for the Texans offensive line which needs one of the better players back on the offensive line.

– Rookie right tackle Brennan Williams had micro-fracture surgery on his knee, the same knee that required a surgery after sustaining the injury during rookie mini camp. Williams just could not get that knee right during the preseason, and getting him healthy for the 2014 season is the new goal.

– T.J. Yates has been named the backup quarterback and that was justified with his play during the preseason.

– Ed Reed is still going to be a game time decision, and he took part in practice on Monday and Tuesday. He was limited during practice on Wednesday, and the team would know more about where he was at later in the week.

– Arian Foster feels 100% for Monday night’s game and is expected to start. Expect Foster’s evening to be monitored closely by the team.

– Jared Crick has been named the started in place of the suspended Antonio Smith.

– When Antonio Smith returns, the Texans will not have to cut anyone off the active roster. The Texans are at 52 on the roster with them putting Quessenberry on the I.R.

– The Texans resigned Nate Menkin to the practice squad, to make room they released inside linebacker Mike Mohamed.

– Linebacker Darryl Sharpton has been on concussion protocol since the New Orleans game. He did not play in the New Orleans game, but was labeled as “sick” on why he was not playing in the game. He has not practiced with the team since the injury.
