The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: San Francisco Edition

The Texans were embarrassed by the 49ers Sunday night on national television.  With the 34-3 loss, they are now in third place in the AFC South at 2-3 and are two games behind the Colts for first place. The game was over about a minute and a half into the game when Matt Schaub threw his pick six. This game is proof that change is necessary for the Texans.

The Good

Not much. The Texans did have some success running the ball, rushing for over 130 yards and averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Keshawn Martin had a very good 49-yard kick return at the beginning of the game. The defense also did a decent job against the pass, making Colin Kaepernick complete less than 50% of his 15 passes. Whitney Mercilus also had another sack this week, giving him a team leading 4.5 on the season. He is coming around and can be a crucial piece on the defense in the present and future.

The Bad

The defense didn’t play well against the run. The 49ers ran for 177 yards and averaged almost 5 yards a carry. The defense also had a busted coverage that led to a long touchdown pass and they did not force any turnovers. Randy Bullock also missed another field goal, this time a 45 yarder.

The Ugly

Matt Schaub was horrendous. His confidence is completely shot. I’m sure he was very relieved the game wasn’t in Houston because he would have been booed off the field after his first interception. While I do not think the quarterback of the future is on the Texans’ roster, it cannot hurt to give T.J. Yates and/or Case Keenum a shot for at least the next game while trying to repair Schaub’s broken confidence.
