Danieal Manning Out With Significant Knee Injury

When it rains, it pours. Right now the Houston Texans lost a key piece of their defense in Danieal Manning. Manning suffered a significant knee injury in the third quarter against the St. Louis Rams on a tackle when his right foot got stuck in the ground and buckled his knee. He did not return after the injury despite running on the sidelines waiting to return.

Danieal ManningThe injury comes at a bad time to a team that is struggling in all three phases of the game. Manning has been a bright spot for the defense and has been playing as a box player as a key run defender. In 2013, he has started all 6 games and has 25 total tackles and 1 sack.

With Manning out, the Texans only have 4 healthy safeties and three of them have little experience on the field. Ed Reed will stay a starter with Shiloh Keo, D.J. Swearinger and Eddie Pleasant being the depth left at safety.

What the Texans do for Manning’s spot on the roster will be interesting to see.  They cannot place Manning on the I.R. with destination to return because Owen Daniels is already tagged with it.
