Texans Sign D.J. Smith to the 53 Man Roster

The Houston Texans have signed inside linebacker D.J. Smith to the 53 man roster. Smith is in his 3rd season out of Appalachian State. He has spent time with the Green Bay Packers (2011-2012) and was signed by the San Diego Chargers in 2013, but did not attend camp with them despite being signed.

Smith was drafted in 2011 in the 6th round (186th overall) by the Packers and appeared in 22 games in two years (started 9 games). Smith for his career has 82 total tackles, 2 sacks, 5 pass deflections and 1 interception. He is 6-0 and 239 lbs., 24 years old and brought in to replace the injured Brian Cushing, who was placed on the injured reserve.

Smith should be active on game days and plugged into special teams.
