Houston Texans Sign Chad Spann to Practice Squad

The Houston Texans have signed free agent running back Chad Spann to their practice squad. This move came to replace the spot of Edwin Baker who was signed to the Cleveland Browns active squad on Monday.

Spann attended Northern Illinois and rushed for 2,916 yards and 48 touchdowns in his four-year career with the Huskies. He was the 2010 MAC Offensive player of the year and led the nation in rushing touchdowns the same season with 22.

After his senior season, he went undrafted and was signed by the Indianapolis Colts and spent time on their practice squad during the 2011 season. He also spent time on practice squads for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2011), Pittsburgh Steelers (2012) and the New York Jets (2013). Spann has appeared in one NFL game and that was in the wild card playoff game for the Steelers against the Denver Broncos in 2012.

Spann measures in at 5-9 and 198 lbs.
