Jonathan Grimes Returns to the Texans

A familiar face in Jonathan Grimes is returning to the Houston Texans’ active roster with Ben Tate being placed on injured reserve. Grimes is in his second season out of William & Mary and was initially invited to Texans training camp as a free agent in 2012. Grimes was on the Texans practice squad to start the 2012 season after rushing 130 yards and a touchdown in preseason.

That same season, Grimes was signed by the New York Jets from the practice squad and made his NFL debut against the Texans the same season. Grimes appeared in 3 games for the Jets and was waived only to be resigned by the Texans when Ben Tate had a hamstring issue. Grimes played in six games for the Texans, all on special teams.

Grimes also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012 and was released by them after training camp in 2013.

At 5-10 and 209 lbs., Grimes will be the third running back on the depth chart and expected to help contribute on special teams.
