Texans Top 20 of 2013: #14 Keshawn Martin

In this series, we look at the top 20 Houston Texans of the 2013 season.

Early in the season Keshawn Martin struggled like majority of the team, but as the season went on he improved for the Houston Texans. Martin’s real value lies in the fact that he is one of the top returners in the NFL and this held true once again in his second season in the NFL. Fumbles plagued him early, but when the coaching staff took away some duties from him he played and looked more focused for the Texans.

Buried in the wide receiver depth chart, he flipped all season with DeVier Posey as the 3rd wide receiver in offensive sets, and posted 22 receptions for 253 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Martin led the Texans in 2013 with 1,545 all-purpose yards (253 receiving, 947 kick return yards, 345 punt return yards) as was 4th in the NFL with (4) 40 yard or more kickoff returns, 5th in the NFL in kickoff return (min. of 30 returns) with a 26.3 return average, and did register the first punt return touchdown since the 2011 season.

He still has work to do as a wide receiver, but heading into his third season with the Texans should prove to be a make or break season for his time in Houston. He has shown that he can produce as a punt and kick returner in the NFL for the Texans.
