Texans Top 20 of 2013: #11 Garrett Graham

In this series, we look at the top 20 Houston Texans of the 2013 season.

It took some time for Garrett Graham to get his shot on a NFL playing field and in his final year of his rookie contract, Graham started more games (11) in 2013 than he did the previous three seasons (9). Graham became a center piece of a Houston Texans offense that had some questionable quarterback play all season.

Graham became the full-time starter for the Texans after week six when Owen Daniels went down with a fractured leg that kept him out for the season. Despite the poor quarterback play, Graham tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions with five and registered career highs in receiving yards (545), receptions (49), targets (88) and touchdowns. Used very sparingly prior to the season, Graham showed he can be a reliable target in the middle of the field.

His real value was when he was on the field early in the season when he took advantage of all of the attention paid to Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins and Daniels by defenses. Graham was a match up issue with Daniels being the primary tight end matched up against better coverage players. As the weapons disappeared, Graham stepped up and became a reliable target for second year quarterback Case Keenum.

He missed the final three games of the season with a hamstring injury and he could have possibly played his final year in Houston with the emergence of rookie Ryan Griffin late in the season. Graham is a free agent with low wear and tear on his body despite being in the league for four seasons. Being positive impact for an offense that struggled all year was a tough thing to accomplish, but when Graham was healthy he put up some positive production for the Texans. That production could easily turn into a better deal from another NFL team in 2014 with Graham ready to hit the open market.
