Texans Trying to Lock Up Garrett Graham

The Green Bay Packers are waiting for the free agency period to open on March 11th and reports are they are waiting on Houston Texans tight end Garrett Graham. According to’s Ian Rapoport the Texans are trying to resign Graham before the new league year starts which marks the start of free agency.

Graham was tagged by us here as the only must sign option that the Texans from their free agent class. Graham has spent four seasons with the Texans and had his best season last year when he hauled in 49 receptions for 545 yards and five touchdowns. Starting 11 games for the Texans he missed the final three games of the season with a hamstring injury and was a viable option for the offense majority of the season.

Not seeing much action his first two seasons with the Texans buried in the depth chart behind Owen Daniels and the now departed Joel Dresseen and James Casey. Graham waited his turn to get his shot on the field and did not disappoint when asked to play the second tight end and the eventual starter when Daniels went down with a leg injury for the season.

Trying to bring back Graham makes sense for the team, especially with plenty of depth issues up and down the roster. At 27 years old, Graham will be looking to get a some good guaranteed money in his second NFL contract and the Texans are getting the first shot to lock up Graham for the near future.

With recently signed Zach Potter, the Texans have three tight ends under contract for the upcoming season. If the Texans can add Graham back to the roster there is a good chance that it could start the movement of players within the roster.

Graham was drafted in the 4th round (118th overall) out of Wisconsin in the 2010 NFL Draft.
