Report: “Real” Interest Between Texans and Cassel

With free agency set to open next week the Houston Texans will be in the hunt to find a veteran quarterback to bring in for the season according to Owner Bob McNair.

According to’s Ian Rapoport there is “real” interest between the Texans and free agent quarterback Matt Cassel. Cassel opted out of his final year with the Minnesota Vikings and walked away from $3.5 million to test the open market. When Cassel walked away from Minnesota he became a viable option for the Texans, and now it looks like the signs are pointing to a reunion with two of his former coaches.

Cassel has played for Bill O’Brien in New England and Romeo Crennel in Kansas City, so there is familiarity with him in the locker room.

In his career he has thrown for 15,302 yards for 93 touchdowns and 66 interceptions. He has spent time with the Patriots, Chiefs and Vikings in his 10 seasons in the NFL since being drafted in the 7th round (2005 NFL draft) out of USC.
