Texans Claim Paul Hazel off of Waivers

The Houston Texans have claimed outside linebacker Paul Hazel off of waivers from the Cleveland Browns. Hazel finished his first season in the NFL after arriving as a rookie free agent from Western Michigan and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the Jaguars he went through training camp with the team appeared to be a practice squad player .

Hazel was waived by the Jaguars on August 27th 2013 and was claimed by the Browns on March 5th and spent the remainder of the season on the active roster. He appeared in 13 games and recorded three tackles for the season, with majority of his time coming on special teams.

Hazel is an upside player that the Texans are going to take a look at to help out the outside linebackers depth.

Hazel checks in at 6-5 and 227 lbs and is 23 years old.

Four-year letterman … Also saw action on the Western Michigan basketball team during the 2012-13 season … Appeared in 49 games, making 19 starts at DE … Career totals include 104 tackles (55 solo), 24.0 tackles for a loss, 17.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, six pass breakups and one fumble recovery … Played in 12 games as a senior with four starts at LB, recording 20 tackles (10 solo), four sacks, three forced fumbles and two pass breakups … Saw action in 13 games as a junior with three starts … Posted a career-high 46 tackles (25 solo) as a sophomore along with eight sacks and 12.0 tackles for loss while earning third-team All-MAC honors
