Texans Free Agency: Moving and Shaking (Day 1)

The new NFL season has opened up and the Houston Texans have been quiet for the opening of free agency. The Texans made some internal moves and will be watching some of their own free agents moving to other teams.


Day 1 News

-The Houston Texans have released corner back Brice McCain and tight end Owen Daniels. It was made know that Daniels had a failed physical designation.

-It appears that defensive tackle Earl Mitchell will be signing with the Miami Dolphins. That puts a hole in the Texans defensive line heading into next season

– Defensive end Antonio Smith will be testing the market and has visits set up with the Washington Redskins, Tennessee Titans, St. Louis Rams and the Oakland Raiders. His first trip is set for today for Washington.

– The Houston Texans have a scheduled meeting with free agent quarterback Josh McCown.  The Texans are second on the visit list behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and there is some thought that the Buccaneers will not let him leave without a deal. The New York Jets are also on the visit list.

McCown played for Sam Houston State and was drafted in the 3rd round by the Arizona Cardinals. He has appeared in 58 career games and thrown for 8,827 yards with 50 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. McCown had his best season of his career in 2013 with ,1829 yards with 13 touchdowns and 1 interception.

– Free agent guard Wade Smith says there is interest from other teams and he does not rule out a return to Houston.
