Report: Texans to Trade Matt Schaub to the Raiders

The Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders are close to a deal to send quarterback Matt Schaub to Oakland. The reports are that Schaub will be dealt for a late round pick when the deal is finalized within the day.

With the free agent market for quarterback drying up the Raiders did not want to lose Schaub on the open market to the Cleveland Browns who also showed interest in the quarterback. There was a late push in the evening for Schaub and the deal appears to be all but complete.

The cap savings of around $4 million were used to bring in new quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick when he signed yesterday.

Schaub has been with the Texans since 2007 when they acquired him for draft picks in 2007 from the Atlanta Falcons. With the Texans he spent 7 seasons with a 46 and 42 overall record in the regular season and has thrown for 124 touchdown passes with 78 interceptions. He led the league in passing in 2009 and has appeared in two pro bowls with the Texans.

The deal is still pending Schaub passing a physical and he is due to be in Oakland later today to be at the Raiders facility.

Matt Schaub has passed his physical and the Texans receiver a 6th round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
