Jadeveon Clowney

The Houston Texans have decided to put the weight of their franchise on the broad shoulders of phenom prospect Jadeveon Clowney. Passing on a potential franchise quarterback is a tough call, but it’s hard to blame them for taking the best overall prospect in this years draft and maybe the best pass rushing prospect of the last decade.

The Details:

  • Height – 6’5″
  • Weight – 266
  • Hand Size – 10″
  • 40 Yard Dash – 4.53 seconds
  • Vertical Jump – 37.5 inches

The Stats:

  • 2011: 8 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 5 forced fumbles
  • 2012: 13 sacks, 23.5 tackles for loss, 3 forced fumbles
  • 2013: 3 sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble

The Scouts Take:

The Game Tape:

Vs. Georgia (2012)

Vs. Clemson (2013)

The Analysis:

Strengths – Special combination of size and speed for the position. Explosive athlete. Elite change of direction ability to get around blockers. Has an amazing inside move on his pass rush that is rarely blocked. Just scratching the surface of his potential despite a very good college career.

Weaknesses – Hasn’t developed a full repertoire of pass rushing moves at this point. Might take a few plays off when he gets tired. A little thin for defensive end, but shouldn’t be an issue at outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense like the Texans use. Untested ability to drop back in coverage as a linebacker, but likely won’t be asked to do so very often.

NFL Comparison:

Best Case – Lawrence Taylor

Worst Case – Aldon Smith
