Anthony Midget Promoted to the Houston Texans Defensive Backs Coach

The Houston Texans have promoted assistant defensive back coach Anthony Midget to the defensive back coach heading into the 2018 season. Midget has been with the Texans since 2014 on Bill O’Brien’s original coaching staff. Midget was responsible for coaching the safety group for the past four seasons.

The Texans interviewed former Green Bay Packers defensive back coach Darren Perry for the position but opted to promote the well-respected Midget to the position.

Midget originally spent time with O’Brien at Penn State when he coached safeties in 2013. Midget takes over for the departed John Butler who was the defensive back coach for the Texans since 2014. Midget also coached at Virginia Tech and Georgia State before arriving at Penn State.

Midget played for the Atlanta Falcons and was drafted in 2000 in the 5th round out of Virginia Tech. He also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Texans will more than likely hire a defensive back coach assistant to help Midget for the season.
