Houston Texans Set to Hire Oakland Raiders Brad Seely as the Special Teams Coordinator

The Houston Texans have hired Oakland Raiders special teams coordinator Brad Seely to the same position. Seely will replace the departed Larry Izzo and this will be the third special teams’ coordinator coach Bill O’Brien has had entering his fifth season leading the team. Seely was with O’Brien two season one the Patriots coaching staff in 2007 and 2008.

Seely is a veteran coaching presence in the league and is leaving Oakland after the arrival of new head coach Jon Gruden bringing in his own coordinators.

Seely coached 10 seasons with the New England Patriots (1999-2008) as their special team’s coordinator alongside Romeo Crennel. He also made stops with the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers before arriving at Oakland where he spent three seasons. Seely was originally hired by former Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio.

The Raiders special teams unit had a that saw punter Marquette King rank 4th in the NFL with a net yards average of 42.7 and returner Cordarrelle Patterson rank 6th in the NFL averaging 28.3 yards a kick return.
