According to Walter Football the Houston Texans held a private workout for Boise State cornerback, Jamar Taylor. Taylor was first connected with the Texans at the 2013 Senior Bowl, and seems to still be held in high regard with the organization. Taylor lit up the 2013 NFL Combine and ran a 4.39 second 40-yard dash and benched 225 lbs. 22 times which where both in the tops of the results for his position group. Taylor comes from a long line of Boise State defensive backs and is looking to the 6th to be drafted in the last eight years. During his senior season at…

Rebuilding the 2012 Texans

Texans Huddle

In light of the upcoming draft I thought I would look into how I would go about rebuilding the Houston Texans through the draft. With the draft being unpredictable I am going to focus only on the eight picks the Texans have. First off let’s look at some of the key players that the Texans lost due to free agency and left holes in some places and lack of depth in others. Here is a short list of the players that left due to free agency. Mario Williams: Defensive End/Outside Linebacker – Buffalo Bills DeMeco Ryans: Linebacker – Philadelphia Eagles…

Scouting the Draft for a Mario Williams Replacement

SheaMcClellin

This is an installment from State of the Texans feature Columnist, Mike Kerns.   Even before the eventual departure of Mario Williams to free agency, it is always said of a Wade Phillips 3-4 defense that one can never have enough linebackers. Be it inside or outside, you can’t have another situation like last season where Connor Barwin and Brooks Reed were playing virtually every snap and giving the trainer with the oxygen masks a workout after every play.   With this logic in mind combined with this little event known as the NFL Draft right around the corner, my…

Texans Start Bringing in Prospects

Reliant1

The Houston Texans closing in on the NFL Draft are bringing in potential draft picks for some workouts. The news on players who are coming to visit Reliant is slowly trickling in and we will update the players who will be visiting leading up to the Draft in April. Majority of the players look like they could be late round draft picks or undrafted free agents invited to camp, and these guys are players who should not be overlooked. The Texans have done a good job on finding talent outside of the draft when it comes to undrafted players.     The…

SOTT Draft Profile: Shea McClellin

SheaMcClellin

The next few weeks here on State of the Texans we will be doing some draft profiles of some particular players who could possibly fit into the Texans plans. We are not going to try to piece together scouting reports, but we enlist help of bloggers who actually cover the respective player and their school.   We talk to Kevan Lee from OBNUG, a Boise State Broncos blog on SB nation and talk about the defensive end hybrid Shea McClellin. One of the most versatile players in this years draft, McClellin has shown he can play either defensive end or outside…
