Three Texans Who Need a Position Change for 2014

BrandonHArris

The Houston Texans have to figure out their depth for the 2014 season and right now the team has players under contract that have had their growth stunted on the field. For whatever reason, the players we focus on have been passed by other players, over matched or they look out of position. Sometimes as a coaching staff, there has to be a moment where they have to think outside of the box and put players in positions to succeed. Here are the three that could use a position change could help their NFL careers and most importantly the Texans for…

Texans Salary vs. Production in 2013

texans1

This wasn’t originally our idea but Shane Richardson was looking at production from the 2013 season versus cap number for the upcoming 2014 season. We decided to take it a step further and work the 2013 cap numbers into the equation versus their production for the season. Richardson looked at the top 10 paid players from each team and compared their Pro Football Focus rank versus what they were paid. We  broke down the top 15 players for the Texans and look at their rank versus their contract ranks. The comparisons should come as no surprise. 2013 Texans Salary vs. Production…

Head Coach Bill O’Brien is faced with a big task to get the Houston Texans back to the top of the AFC South. The player evaluations, new coaching staff and draft preparation is completed or still in the process as we speak. O’Brien has to do everything he can to make the Texans successful, but he cannot do it by himself. The new head coach will have to lean on some key figures to make the Texans contenders once again. If it is players or coaches, O’Brien has work to do and needs help to set the ball in motion….

The Four Pieces of the Texans Offseason

Reliant12

The Houston Texans are coming off one of the most embarrassing seasons in team history and the upcoming off-season is full questions and speculation. Newly anointed Head Coach Bill O’Brien has made his presence felt since he arrived, and now with the Super Bowl coming in less than a week, the new league year will be closing in. The off-season will be full of decisions that will set the Texans up for what could be potentially franchise mover under O’Brien. By mover, it could be up or down, which makes this one to watch.   Dead Money/Cap Casualties Everyone wants to…

BenTate3

The Houston Texans had their lone representative in running back Ben Tate made one of the best named end of the season teams, the USA Today All-Joe Team for 2013. The team includes representatives from each NFL team, and players who have never been named to the Pro Bow. Here is what USA Today had to say about the Texans running back, Ben Tate (Texans): Ran for a team-best 771 yards despite playing a good chunk of the season with four broken ribs. This tough guy will be tough for Houston to re-sign. (See the Entire Team Here) There is no secret what Tate…

Today rumors were surrounding former Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak possibly being the target for the Cleveland Browns for their offensive coordinator. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport had this to say, Hear there’s interest in Gary Kubiak for #Browns OC job. Would make sense, given team’s FA love for RB Ben Tate, who’d be in the same system — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) January 24, 2014 Apparently the National Media has not been following what has been happening in Houston. Free agent running back Ben Tate was put in the dog house last season by Kubiak, and did not play one snap in…

Is Brian Ferentz Next to Join the Texans?

Brian Ferentz

With Mike Munchak accepting the offensive line coaching position with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it appears that the Houston Texans and Head Coach Bill O’Brien have turned their attention back to Brian Ferentz. Ferentz is currently the offensive line coach at Iowa under his father Kirk. Ferentz has been the offensive line coach at Iowa for two seasons starting in 2012. Ferentz worked with O’Brien at New England as an offensive assistant (2009-2010) and as the tight ends coach in 2011 when O’Brien was the offensive coordinator.
