Brad Maynard Wins Punting Job
According to John McClain the Houston Texans have waived rookie punter Brett Hartmann today, which leaves the punting duties to veteran Brad Maynard for the 2011 season.
Not one of the strongest legs in the NFL, Maynard makes up for it with his directional punting. This preseason Maynard has punted five times for averaging 41.8 yards a punt with a 37.8 net average. He has placed two of his punts inside the twenty to pin teams deep in their territory.
The competition came down to consistency, and even though Hartmann had the stronger of the two legs, he couldn’t produce what he needed to in the punting game.
