Houston Texans have lost another free agent, this time with safety Glover Quin to the Detroit Lions on a 5 year deal. Quin who was considered the Texans top free agent of the 2013 season, it makes the second starter lost for the upcoming season.
Quin was drafted in 2009 in the 4th round (112th overall) from the University of New Mexico and turned himself into a key piece of the Texans defense. Drafted as a corner back Quin rejuvenated his career after Wade Phillips came to Houston in 2011 to run the defense. Phillips moved Quin to safety and used his versatility to play him at safety, slot corner back and linebacker in nickel situations.
In 2012, Quin had 82 total tackles with 2 interceptions, 14 pass deflections with 2 forced fumbles. A consistent tackler and solid football player the loss of Quin will put the Texans defense a step back unless they can replace his production through free agency or the draft.
With Quin leaving the Texans have three safeties under contract in Danieal Manning, Eddie Pleasant and Shiloh Keo.
