Kellen Clemens Signed, Schaub IR’d
The Houston Texans ended the season of quarterback Matt Schuab by placing him on injured reserve with a lis franc injury to his right foot. Schaub suffered the injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was looking for second opinions too see if he could avoid being placed on injured reserve.
With that the Texans signed free agent quarterback Kellen Clemens who was most recently with the Washington Redskins. Clemens was a 2nd round pick (49th overall) by the New York Jets in the 2006 NFL Draft out of the University of Oregon. With only 9 career starts, Clemens was supposed to be the Jets quarterback of the future, but was quickly replaced the retired Brett Favre and by current Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Clemens provides a veteran third string quarterback who is only 28 years old. At 6’2″ 220 lbs. Clemens has a lot of catching up to do, in terms of knowing the Texans playbook. Expect Clemens to be the “emergency” option behind rookie T.J. Yates and new starter Matt Leinart.
With Schaub going on injured reserve that marks the 10th Texans player on injured reserve. He joins Mario Williams, Darryl Sharpton, Dominique Barber, Lestar Jean, Darius Morris, Shelly Smith, Kasey Studdard, Rashad Butler and Roc Carmichael.
