Off The Field: The Justin J. Watt Foundation
“Dream Big, Work Hard”
Texans’ fans, you should be very proud.
In just his second year as the Texans’ starting defensive end, Watt has fully embraced Houston. Even as much as recently tweeting, “Love this city” after spending a day as the Art Car Parade Co-Grand Marshal and watching the inaugural Dynamo soccer match in their new stadium downtown (Watt was also a grand marshall in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Parade this past year with Andre Johnson).
Watt’s non-profit, the Justin J. Watt Foundation, is an extension of his strong will to give back. His Foundation was created to benefit local elementary and middle schools that lack funding. Its mission is to provide after school activities so children have opportunities to become more involved in athletics. Watt’s non-profit was founded on the same principles that guided him growing up – accountability, teamwork, leadership, work ethic and perseverance.
“You have to give back to the community, because the community makes us who we are as players.”
Watt adopted the phrase “Dream Big Work Hard” for his Foundation. Wrist bands in Texans’ colors with the “DBWH” logo can be had for a small donation. (http://jjwfoundation.org/wristbands/).
The Foundation and its activities started in his home state of Wisconsin at area middle schools, now it has expanded to the Houston area, his adopted home.
