Live from Training Camp

TexansGrid

Welcome to live from training camp…. The goal of this column is to give you an ongoing view of as much of a day at training camp as possible. I’ll be posting pics, vids, and tweets to let you have a view into the experience. “@CrazyTex00: Headn to training camp” “@BigRon281: Definitely the most people I’ve seen out here at #Texans Camp upon my arrival (which was a while ago). 1st day I’m worried about a good seat” First players arrive for practice “@j_cynic: Lestar Jean is back. http://t.co/lyP8rj0Y” “@PHABMK6: Brandon Brooks not practicing today. #Texans” “@PHABMK6: Jerrell Jackson and…

To the Penny: Brooks and Posey Contract Situations

IMG_1351

With rookies reporting to training camp in 5 days, the Houston Texans are working hard to bring in their last two unsigned rookie 3rd round draft picks, DeVier Posey (68th overall) and Brandon Brooks (76th overall). The other Texans rookies are all signed and ready to go for camp, but if there were any two that don’t need to take it to the last hour it would be both Posey and Brooks. It seems like this is a league wide issue when it comes to 3rd round picks. NFL.com’s Brian McIntyre said this. There are 14 unsigned picks from the third round, a…

Road Blocks for the Texans: Staying Healthy

T.J. Yates and Arian Foster

In this series we will look at potential road blocks for the Houston Texans heading into the 2012 season. This is part 3 of the series.     Staying Healthy   Let’s be honest, the 2011 Houston Texans seemed to be snake bitten every week when it came to an injury. It started during training camp and carried on throughout the season and it was so bad that Matt Schaub, Arian Foster and Andre Johnson only played 2 1/2 quarters together, a total of 51 plays. Now when your three biggest offensive weapons only play that limited time of time together,…

Reliant1

Here on the State of the Texans we are going to release the snaps counts of the Texans players on offense and defense for the next few weeks. We looked at snaps, carries, targets, hurries and anything else we could have thought of. Here are the reports from week 2. YOU CAN CLICK ON THE LINKS TO SEE THE COMPLETE SNAPS OF THE GAME.   Offensive Notes: Offensive Snaps vs….

Conspiracy Theory: The Quarterbacks

Matt Schaub

Is there something the Houston Texans front office and coaching staff isn’t telling us? I am of the belief that something is being covered up by the Texans in regards to the Quarterback position. We have seen the Texans bring in plenty of backup Quarterbacks in recent years and have them compete for a spot on the team, but we can’t recall the Texans bringing in a legitimate player to challenge Schaub. The Texans had Sage Rosenfels which was the last legit backup, then there was Matt Leinart, and now John Beck? What is really going on in the Texans…

Wade Phillips Named Coordinator of the Year

WadeandGary

Today Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was named the Sporting News 2011 Coordinator of the Year, only the 32 coaches and executives from that group voted for coach of the year,  coordinator of the year and executive of the year. This was a no-brainer to Texans fans, especially after what he did for the Texans defense in 2011, turning them into the top-tier defense in the NFL.

4 Texans Make the USA Today’s 2011 All-Joe Team

Houston Texans, 2011 Offensive Line

The Houston Texans were well represented in this years 2011 USA Today’s All Joe team, and the Texans even had the All-Joe’s “Capitan” of the team. All the players on the list have not been selected to the Pro Bowl and are considered the players who have flown under the radar. It was good to see some Texans get some national attention and some respect.

Contract Talk: Chris Myers

Chris Myers

In this series we are going to look at the potential free agents of the Houston Texans, and figure out if they work into the plans for the coming years….   One of the most valuable Houston Texans on the team, starting center Chris Myers has been one of the top if not the best offensive lineman for the Texans since coming to Houston in 2008. Myers who is considered under sized for a NFL lineman at 6’4″ and 285 lbs, but is a perfect fit the Texans zone scheme.

Contract Talk: Derrick Ward

In this series we are going to look at the potential free agents of the Houston Texans, and figure out if they work into the plans for the coming years….   Released in August 2010, by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Derrick Ward was brought to Houston at the beginning of the 2010 season to become insurance for the injured Steve Slaton. Ward was buried in the depth chart in 2010 with the emergence of Arian Foster, and in 2011 he was the third string back throughout the season.

Texans vs. Ravens: The Rematch

When we look at this upcoming divisional game, the Houston Texans match up very well against the favored Baltimore Ravens. Trust me being a fan of the Texans people may think I am wearing Battle Red tinted glasses, but honestly the Texans have an opprotunity to make this 2011 run even better.   One thing that keeps popping up in my mind is the fact that the Texans were down 19-14 against the Ravens in Baltimore with 4:14 seconds left in the game. Are the Ravens one of the top teams in the AFC, of course and so are…
