Day 4 Wrap-Up: Texans Free Agency
After much anticipation and talk of free agent safety Ed Reed signing with the Houston Texans on Friday, it was all quickly shot down when Reed left home for Atlanta with no deal. Day 4 Notes – The Texans signed their only restricted free agent in Andrew Gardner who was an offensive tackle on the roster last season. – Free agent running back Justin Forsett has signed a one year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Forsett who was the team’s third running back and special teams player will put the team in the market to sign or draft a free agent runningback…
Day 2 Wrap-Up: Texans Free Agency
The Houston Texans on day two of free agency lost another starter, but started the process of looking for some help of their own. Pretty interesting news is starting to leak out about the Texans. Day 2 notes – The big new of the day is veteran free safety Ed Reed will be visiting Reliant on Thursday. This comes a surprise with so little talk coming out of Houston the past couple days this comes as breath fresh air for an anxious fan base. – The Texans lost out to the Detroit Lions in the bidding war for…
Five Texans Already Ruled Out For Sunday
The Houston Texans have already ruled out Brooks Reed (Groin), Derek Newton (Knee), Johnathan Joseph (Hamstring and Groin), Antoine Caldwell (Hamstring) and Bradie James (Hamstring) for the Sunday game against the Tennessee Titans. Also, Alan Ball will be a game time decision with a foot injury which could lead to moving Brice McCain into the starting lineup with second year corner back Brandon Harris getting more defensive snaps at the nickel corner position. The majority of the back ups played plenty of snaps against the Detroit Lions in their Thanksgiving game but this could be good for the Texans…
Mid Season Report Card: Special Teams
This is the section of our SOTT Mid Season Report card and we will run through every position group for the Houston Texans. We focus on the special teams in this post and give our thoughts on the position group. The Special Teams Shayne Graham: We have been very impressed with his field goal accuracy, which is why he is one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history. The only issue is his leg strength on long field goals and especially kickoffs. Currently, he is 13-15 in field goals (51 is the long) and in 48 kickoffs he only has 11…
Calculated Free Agents Have Helped the Texans
Teams are not built over night but being able to add the right pieces to an NFL team can make the difference in having a team with real depth. General Manager Rick Smith took some tough criticism with his moves running this organization but he has learned on the run and got this franchise going in the right direction. It takes the draft to build for the future, but it takes looking at the free agent pool to sign solid NFL talent. It is impressive looking at what Smith has been able to do with the free agents he has signed that are…
3 Questions About the Texans
It is hard to imagine from a casual look that anything could be an issue with the Houston Texans, who are sitting at 6-1 and atop the AFC Conference and the AFC South. Watching the Texans, it is easy to see the team is still searching for that perfect game where they can be left satisfied. Despite 6 wins, there is room for improvement. Like all NFL teams, the Texans have some issues that need to be corrected to calm some wondering minds. With a few injuries and issues on the team, we look at three questions that have come to the…
The Rundown: Titans Edition
It is still hard to believe that we would say, at any point, that the Houston Texans are 4-0, even after they beat the Tennessee Titans 38-14. The Texans fell flat for a short time in the first half when the score was 14-7 going into halftime, but thanks to Titans right tackle David Stewart he woke up the defense in a big way. Stewart pulled Brooks Reed‘s hair, threw a hay maker that landed on Tim Jamison’s head, and started anything he could with any player in the Deep Steel Blue on Sunday. 24 unanswered points later buried the Titans and…
Bradie James is M.I.A.
The Houston Texans worked out several defensive linemen today, as reported by Ravens Insider Aaron Wilson. This is a standard practice for the Texans each week to see if any street free agents have the ability to come in and possibly compete for a roster spot or replace a player in the event of an injury. The Texans brought in defensive linemen Remi Ayodele, Brandon Bair, Corbin Bryant, Daniel Muir, Jay Richardson and Clifton Geathers. I wonder why the Texans didn’t consider bringing in any additional linebackers after the sad display put on by inside linebacker Bradie James? James played…
