Texans OTAs: Day One Recap
The Houston Texans, all 89 of them, came together for their first OTA session of the 2013 season. This is the first of 10 practices but it is a good sight to finally see more Texans football being put out on display. There are some new faces at Reliant and some that were missing, but still a new outlook for the 2013 season is at hand. Here are some early thoughts on the opening of OTAs. Day One – Ed Reed was in Colorado finishing some rehab on his hip and is expected to fly back in the middle of…
Second Year Players May Light Up Dark Free Agency
Like most of you, we are waiting for the Texans’ first big move in this free agency period and wonder how the Texans can recover from losing 3 starters. To help me, along with you, I have shifted my focus on not what the Texans have lost, but rather what they might gain in 2013. Ladies and gentlemen, I remind you of the Texans’ 2012 draft class. Here’s a look at who needs to step up to fill the voids the Texans are currently staring at. Offense: Solid in the return game, Keshawn Martin did little to help his cause on the…
Grading the 2012 Texans’ Rookies
The season is over and now it is time to look at the Houston Texans rookies and give our grades for them this season. The Draft Picks Jared Crick- A spot player but made the defensive line rotation after Tim Jamison went down for the season with an injury. He showed he can play against the run and played both defensive end and nose tackle this season. Still some learning to do, he was called in to spell Antonio Smith in run situations. Expect a bigger workload for Crick in 2013. Grade: C+ Brandon Brooks- Silent for the majority of the season,…
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Playoff Edition
Playoff time has arrived and the Houston Texans hosted the Cincinnati Bengals for the second time in the opening round of the playoffs. A lot of skepticism surrounded this game, especially with the poor play of the Texans at the latter end of the season. The major question concerning the Texans going into the playoffs was could they flip the switch and catch the fire they had at the beginning of the season. Here’s the breakdown: FINAL SCORE: Texans 19 Bengals 13 TEXANS PLAYOFF RECORD: 1-0 TEXANS PLAYOFF SEATING: 3RD TEXANS FIRST OPPONENT: CINNCINATI BENGALS TEXANS NEXT OPPONENT: NEW ENGLAND…
The Rundown: Texans vs. Titans
It wasn’t pretty but the Houston Texans clinched their playoff spot for the second season in a row with a 24-10 win over the Tennessee Titans. The game felt as if in slow motion at times and like the Texans were struggling, but the game was in hand the entire day. The offense did enough to get by and the defense created opportunity after opportunity to make it an easy day for the Texans. The Texans were depleted with injuries with five players ruled out for the game, so there were plenty of new faces on the field that look good for the future of…
The Rundown: Texans vs. Vikings
Here are a few notes from tonights game against the Minnesota Vikings: – D.J. Bryant has stated a case to make the Texans as a practice squad player. He was active in pass rush and in run game defense. He has shown flashes of his pass rush capability throughout the season. – DeVier Posey was better late than never with his first catch of his NFL career. He caught the ball, took a hit and showed his speed for an 80 yard touchdown. He showed some big play capability which is exactly why the Texans drafted him. – Quarterback…
The Rundown: Texans vs. Carolina
The first preseason game is in the books and the Houston Texans looked good on their opening game of the 2012 preseason. Despite some turnovers and red zone issues that should work themselves out, the Texans beat the Carolina Panthers 26-13. It was a good start for the Texans even though the starters were limited and the reserves saw the majority of the playing time starting in the second quarter. Here are a few thoughts from the Preseason Opener. - Tim Dobbins (pictured above) was all over the field against the Panthers and played like the seasoned veteran he is. He was…

Training Camp: Making Impressions
On Day Three of the Houston Texans training camp, the shoulder pads and live contact took place at Reliant. After plenty of walk through work and no contact, that all quickly changed. Check out our camp notes from Day Three: – Head Coach Gary Kubiak pushed his team a little harder in day three with pads on and the Texas heat. It was evident which players were ready for this heat, and plenty of players got tired out there on Monday. – The offense came out with plenty of false starts especially from the young guys. Fullback Derrell Smith had some…
Training Camp: No Need to Panic
With Day Two morning session in the books, there was plenty of news out of Houston Texans camp, both good and bad. Here are some day 2 notes: – Wide receiver Andre Johnson was the headline of the day due to a “tweaked” groin, and being witness to it I can see where the concern would come from. We were about 10 yards from where he was trying to get stretched out by the trainers, to get going again for 1-on-1 drills with the defensive backs. Headed under the tent to see the head trainer, they ran a battery of tests on…
