The Rundown: Texans vs. Titans
It wasn’t pretty but the Houston Texans clinched their playoff spot for the second season in a row with a 24-10 win over the Tennessee Titans. The game felt as if in slow motion at times and like the Texans were struggling, but the game was in hand the entire day. The offense did enough to get by and the defense created opportunity after opportunity to make it an easy day for the Texans. The Texans were depleted with injuries with five players ruled out for the game, so there were plenty of new faces on the field that look good for the future of…
Five Texans Already Ruled Out For Sunday
The Houston Texans have already ruled out Brooks Reed (Groin), Derek Newton (Knee), Johnathan Joseph (Hamstring and Groin), Antoine Caldwell (Hamstring) and Bradie James (Hamstring) for the Sunday game against the Tennessee Titans. Also, Alan Ball will be a game time decision with a foot injury which could lead to moving Brice McCain into the starting lineup with second year corner back Brandon Harris getting more defensive snaps at the nickel corner position. The majority of the back ups played plenty of snaps against the Detroit Lions in their Thanksgiving game but this could be good for the Texans…
Texans Players to Watch: Carolina Edition
The Houston Texans are only two days away from finally putting on the pads against an opponent with the team traveling to face the Carolina Panthers. The starters will be limited, the second and third team players will get some much-needed time, and some will be in an NFL game for the first time. With OTAs, mini-camp and the first two weeks of training camp in the books, a different uniform to play football against is a welcomed sight for the Texans. With so many storylines heading into the game, we could just talk about the wide receiver group or the right…
Training Camp: No Need to Panic
With Day Two morning session in the books, there was plenty of news out of Houston Texans camp, both good and bad. Here are some day 2 notes: – Wide receiver Andre Johnson was the headline of the day due to a “tweaked” groin, and being witness to it I can see where the concern would come from. We were about 10 yards from where he was trying to get stretched out by the trainers, to get going again for 1-on-1 drills with the defensive backs. Headed under the tent to see the head trainer, they ran a battery of tests on…
Texans Training Camp Primer: On Deck
This is Part Two of our Training Camp Preview which will be released throughout the week. The Hidden Parts The 2011 Houston Texans were all about the “Next Man Up” mantra and this season hopefully we will not have to relive that stressful time of being a fan. Entering this season, the Texans on paper have a pretty talented roster and it could prove to be a key piece in the run for the AFC South crown. Last season plenty of players received experience from the multitude of injuries and that should be a welcomed sight to a seasoned roster heading into…
The Giving Mood: Texans Mini-Camp
Here are some notes from the Texans last day of Mini-Camp sessions: – Wade Phillips via his twitter account praised the work the young players put in these last few days at mini-camp. He pointed out that second year cornerback Brandon Harris had a good three days at mini-camp and picked off a pass today. Also talked about linebackers Whitney Mercilus, Tim Dobbins and Bryan Braman doing good work at their respective positions. A surprising name came up in Ra’Shon Harris, a second year nose tackle out of Oregon, who has also practiced well during mini-camp. – Head Coach Gary Kubiak’s and General Manager…
Insurance for the 2012 Draft
With the NFL Draft about two months away, the Houston Texans already have some depth in the 2012 draft class with a two particular players who were drafted in 2011. The Texans are slated to have all 7 of their picks in the draft and the first one coming at #26. With those picks it will probably safe to say the Texans will be staying away from the cornerback position, especially with their two 2010 draft picks Brandon Harris and Roc Carmichael looking to make a difference in the upcoming season. With all of the concerns with the Texans secondary going…
Contract Talk: Jason Allen
In this series we are going to look at the potential free agents of the Houston Texans, and figure out if they work into the plans for the coming years…. On November 10, 2010 the Miami Dolphins released cornerback Jason Allen in favor of veteran cornerback Al Harris who was coming of a knee injury. Allen the 16th overall selection in 2006, drafted by Nick Saban, was one of the last Dolphins from the Saban regime. Houston at the time was looking for answers to help a floundering secondary in 2010 and picked him up off waivers.
Texans Rookie Brandon Harris Talks in his Rookie Diary
There have been a lot of question marks surrounding on why second round draft pick Brandon Harris has been getting little time in the corner backs rotation in the 2011 season. The fans in the Texans fan base have also want to see Harris on the field in an important role on the defense. Harris has been inactive for 6 of the Texans 8 games and has played primarily special teams and has had some time in the secondary against the Raiders. With the free agent signing of Johnathan Joseph and emergence of Jason Allen and Brice McCain Harris has been buried…
