SOTT Mailbag Vol. 1 @SOTTexans#SOTT Who has the leg up for the 3rd RB job? How has McGee looked? Which UDFA has impressed the most? How has Braman looked? — John Brandt (@JBonNFL) June 12, 2013 So we will answer this in a four parts. 1. Right now Cierre Wood seems to have to upper hand. Texans OTAs: Day Four Recap
Heading into week two and OTA #4 for the Houston Texans, all of the news centered around the exit of one key offensive starter during practice. The Memorial Day weekend and the Texas heat and humidity set some players back during practice, mainly the younger players. It was a sluggish practice that had its moments of good football being displayed, but it’s only OTAs and everything is not going to be perfect. Day Four – Veteran Tim Dobbins and Ed Reed were once again absent from practice. There have been no talk to the two returning for OTAs but they should be available…
The Texans Need More Edge
If you think about it, there are now only a handful of Texans’ players that could possibly fit the mold we are talking about, that bad guy, but in a good way. The player that plays with the reckless abandon and doesn’t care what the other team or his teammates think. The guy that might seem a little bit crazy on the football field, the one that gives an identity to a football team. Take a look at the Texans we think are the heels of the team. Current Texans That Fit the Mold Kareem Jackson Kareem brought his A game in…
Texans Name Three New Captains
Today the Houston Texans announced three new captains to the team. J.J. Watt, Chris Myers and Shiloh Keo were all named as new captains for the Texans at the halfway point of the season. J.J. Watt has been a terror to opposing offenses and has been a superstar in the making, and now Watt has been rewarded by his teammates for what he has brought to the field for the last eight games. Watt this season has 39 total tackles (31 solo), 10.5 sacks and 10 pass deflections at just the halfway point of this season. Starting center Chris Myers has…
Mid Season Report Card: Linebackers
This is another installment of our SOTT Mid Season Report card and we will run through every position group for the Houston Texans. We focus on the linebackers in this post and give our thoughts on the position group. The Linebacker Grades Brian Cushing: His season was cut way too short for our liking, but his speed in the middle of the field is unmatched. Throw in his leadership on the field, Cushing had risen to the forefront of the defense. He was a tackling machine and a three down linebacker this season and was actually playing at a high level. Throw…
SOTT Quick Hitters
Here are some random thoughts for you on the Houston Texans. – As much flack as Connor Barwin has taken for his lack of production, it feels like defensive end Antonio Smith has gotten a free pass from the critics. Despite having two sacks and a forced fumble in 2012, Smith has been very quite and less disruptive than last season. Now Smith has been on the injury report the past few weeks with an ankle/foot issue that limits him in practice. Gary Kubiak said in his press conference this week that Smith was dealing with other issues too, but did not go into…
Does Keshawn Martin Have Return Ability?
With the most recent moves that the Houston Texans have made in order to adjust their roster with the loss of Brian Cushing, the Texans cut Trindon Holliday and moved Keshawn Martin into the returner role. Most fans thought that Martin was the original player that would take over that role when he was drafted and it would allow them to cut Jacoby Jones. When the Texans started the regular season they never imagined that they would be dead last in the league in kickoff and punt returns. Now with the unexpected injuries that have occurred, the Texans needed to…
