Training Camp: No Need to Panic

Andre

With Day Two morning session in the books, there was plenty of news out of Houston Texans camp, both good and bad. Here are some day 2 notes:     – Wide receiver Andre Johnson was the headline of the day due to a “tweaked” groin, and being witness to it I can see where the concern would come from. We were about 10 yards from where he was trying to get stretched out by the trainers, to get going again for 1-on-1 drills with the defensive backs. Headed under the tent to see the head trainer, they ran a battery of tests on…

NFL Top 100: Earning Respect

Top1002012

It is no secret on how we feel about the Houston Texans but there comes a time where enough is enough. The NFL, for the second year, has let the NFL players vote who the top 100 players are in the NFL. This could probably go for any NFL team’s fan base and where their players are ranked, but the Texans are still working for respect among the NFL landscape. In 2011, when the Texans were 6-10 they put FOUR players on the Top 100 List with Mario Williams (#71), Vonta Leach (#65), Arian Foster (#25) and Andre Johnson (#7). Now…

New feature on State of the Texans beginning this week to increase the off-season fun. We are collecting pictures of our Houston Texans players as they share their activities on Twitter or, in the future, as we receive them and sharing them with the State of the Texans family. We also found this shot of Brian Cushing as he passes Troy Nolan doing something that really isn’t supposed to happen in public. Duane Brown mixed it up with Snoop at the Houston Free Press Summer Fest…

Got That Fire: Texans OTAs

IMG_1820

Here are a few notes from Wednesday’s OTAs.   – Brian Cushing and Hebron Fangupo did not practice. The team is hoping Fangupo can return to practice next Monday. – Head Coach Gary Kubiak expects right tackle Rashad Butler to take a hold of the right tackle position despite competition from Derek Newton. Kubiak likes the fact that Butler has starter experience filling in at left tackle during the 2010 season. – Rookie guard Brandon Brooks has been working with the first team offense with Antoine Caldwell being sick the past few days. –  Gary Kubiak told the media that Matt Schaub is the starter for the…

New Faces: Texans OTAs

IMG_0403

Here is a look at some notes from Monday’s OTAs.   – The Houston Texans made some moves over the weekend with the signings of defensive back Alan Ball and runningback Justin Forsett, and the release of runningback Javarris Williams. Head Coach Gary Kubiak said Forsett will be competing for the 3rd running back position and be a part of the special teams units, he will be wearing #32 for the Texans. As for Ball, he is reunited with his former Head Coach Wade Phillips and likes the fact he is getting refreshed with the defensive system he learned in Dallas. Ball…

Conspiracy Theory: Linebackers

Barwin

In this series we look at the moves the Houston Texans have made since the free agency period and during the draft and let you know what is “really” going on at Reliant and with the team in 2012.     We all know that in Wade Phillips’ 3-4 system that they require a lot of linebackers, but with the recent increase in outside linebackers being added in the last couple of years indicates that the Texans are preparing for more losses at that position. With the current cap situation the Texans could be bracing for the loss of Connor…

Impact Players Still in Houston

Andre Johnson

Despite the bevy of moves by the Houston Texans this offseason, the team is still in a good position to make noise during the 2012 season. With the losses of Eric Winston, Mike Brisiel, DeMeco Ryans and Jason Allen, the Texans on the surface seem to be losing important parts of the team. The fact remains the Texans still have the impact players who made a difference in the 2011 season, which resulted in an AFC South Division title and the franchise’s first ever playoff win. Now losing the players the Texans have lost in recent weeks has put a damper on…
