Texans OTAs: Day Five Recap

Helmet

The Houston Texans cranked up OTA #5 which is the halfway point for this team session. It was once again a breezy day with a nice overcast and the story of the day was the status of Arian Foster. Besides that key news, there was other business to tend to for the Texans in their practice session. After a sluggish Tuesday practice, the entire group of Texans picked it up and some of the younger players had more snaps than usual.   Day Five – Head Coach Gary Kubiak let the media know that Arian Foster was going to be shut down…

Cornerbacks Plentiful for the Texans

Kareem

The NFL is a league full of change but for the Houston Texans’ secondary there is stability that is not often seen entering year three. The Texans prior to 2011 were known for a soft secondary and suspect as a defense, but that has all changed. Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson and Brice McCain will enter their third season together as the top three cornerbacks for the Texans in 2013. Add in Brandon Harris and Roc Carmichael, the depth is there for the defense. The Texans’ defensive backs have been criticized in 2012 for their lack of production after a solid performance in 2011. The lack of…

Houston Texans “Super Draft” 2002-2012

300758-reliant-stadium

It’s not often when you get a chance to do something that takes vision and time to put together, which turns into one of the more interesting posts we have done in some time. We enlisted the help of  TX Cleaver, Big Ron and Jake Langerkamp, who have been fans with the team since it’s inception in 2002. We asked all three to join us in a mock draft using, as players to draft from, only the Houston Texans’ players who have ever suited up for the team since 2002. All three were intrigued by the idea and immediately accepted the offer.  Of course, we only used four…

Texans Stepping Out of the Box

reedweb23s-1-web

The Houston Texans sat on the sidelines after a flurry of moves across the NFL to open up the 2013 free agency period, and fans and critics were questioning motives of the Texans’ front office. Especially after watching their own players walk, specifically the puzzling departure of priority number one during free agency, Glover Quin. Throw in signings of Connor Barwin, James Casey, Justin Forsett and Alan Ball to other teams, the Texans’ roster was taking a huge step back. Then the news came out that free agent Ed Reed was coming to visit the Houston Texans and then the plan started to unfold…

The Houston Texans have started to make small waves during free agency, but starting with one of their own unrestricted free agents. Soon after that new the biggest fish was caught for the Texans of the 2013 free agency period.   Day Nine The Texans brought back unrestricted free agent Brice McCain to be the teams third (nickel) cornerback. See the news from today on McCain’s new deal with the Texans. McCain is a very underrated piece of the Texans secondary and this will bring back their starting nickel cornerback that played lights out in 2011. His 2012 season was cut…

Day 3 Wrap Up: Texans Free Agency

McCain

Another starter was lost, but the excitement picked up with the arrival of a new safety talking to the Texans. The Texans look like they are closing in on their first off-season acquisition of the 2013 NFL season, and it might be a player this team needs to help change the culture from a disappointing end to the 2012 season.     Day 3 Notes – Connor Barwin has left for Philadelphia to join James Casey and the new look Eagles. Barwin signed a six-year deal worth up to $40 million dollars, but on $8 million of that is guaranteed. – Brice McCain‘s agent, David…

Day 1 Wrap-Up: Texans Free Agency

greg-jennings-to-the-dolphins

It was one of those days where the Houston Texans were going to be in wait and see mode and prior to the new league year opening up. There was no good news, the Texans were watching their own free agents board planes and visit other NFL teams. There are some Texans who are no longer with the team and there was some interesting news on who the Texans contacted on the free agent market.   Day One News   -Kevin Walter was released from the Texans and it saved $2.5 million against the cap. Walter was due $4.5 million and…

Quick Look: Texans 2013 Free Agents

Glover Quina nd Brice McCain

It’s that time of year to close the books on the 2012 season and start looking at the 2013 Houston Texans and the first order of business is their own free agents. With 21 potential free agents on the horizon, there are no real Big Money players but there are one or two current players, in our estimation, that are a necessity to keep in Houston. We take a quick look at the free agents on the current roster and give our quick looks at each one.   Free agency begins on March 12, the first day of the new League Year….
