Offensive Line: Once a Weakness, Now a Strength?
By bringing back offensive tackle Ryan Harris, the Houston Texans are showing some of their hand heading into the NFL draft. Throw in the fact they also signed their only restricted free agent in Andrew Gardner, the Texans’ offensive line already looks intact for the 2013 season. The only difference in the offensive line is current free agent Antoine Caldwell, who started the 2012 season as the right guard but was soon passed over by then rookie Ben Jones, will not be back with the team. Entering the 2013 season, the starting offensive line for the Divisional round of the playoffs will be on…
Texans Name Three New Captains
Today the Houston Texans announced three new captains to the team. J.J. Watt, Chris Myers and Shiloh Keo were all named as new captains for the Texans at the halfway point of the season. J.J. Watt has been a terror to opposing offenses and has been a superstar in the making, and now Watt has been rewarded by his teammates for what he has brought to the field for the last eight games. Watt this season has 39 total tackles (31 solo), 10.5 sacks and 10 pass deflections at just the halfway point of this season. Starting center Chris Myers has…
Mid Season Report Card: Offensive Line
This is the start of our SOTT Mid Season Report card and we will run through every position group for the Houston Texans. We focus on the offensive line in this post and give our thoughts on the position group. The Offensive Line Grades Duane Brown: He gave up his first sack of the season against the Buffalo Bills but he has been as good you can ask an NFL left tackle to be. He provides what the offensive line needs, a force in the run and pass blocking game. His athletic ability really shows when the Texans let him…

This is Part Four of our Training Camp Preview which will be released throughout the week. The anticipation is growing for the Houston Texans as training camp grows near, while the expectations for the team also couldn’t get any higher. Just like the majority of sports teams, the Texans look to be in their peak year to contend for the playoffs and beyond. As for some of the key players on the Texans, the window looks to be closing on a few careers as most NFL football players are retired by the age of 28. Looking at the team, the reality that the end is coming…
Conspiracy Theory: The Offensive Line
In this series we look at the moves the Houston Texans have made since the free agency period and during the draft and let you know what is “really” going on at Reliant and with the team in 2012. One of the more interesting positions to keep an eye on heading into training camp is what is occurring at the offensive line position. Considered one of the best offensive line units in the NFL during the 2011 season with Duane Brown, Wade Smith, Chris Myers, Mike Brisiel and Eric Winston clearing the way on the…
Impact Players Still in Houston
Despite the bevy of moves by the Houston Texans this offseason, the team is still in a good position to make noise during the 2012 season. With the losses of Eric Winston, Mike Brisiel, DeMeco Ryans and Jason Allen, the Texans on the surface seem to be losing important parts of the team. The fact remains the Texans still have the impact players who made a difference in the 2011 season, which resulted in an AFC South Division title and the franchise’s first ever playoff win. Now losing the players the Texans have lost in recent weeks has put a damper on…
Texans Resign Myers and Stop the Bleeding
The Houston Texans after looking like a bleak offseason with many questionable moves came back in a big way when they retained their Pro Bowl starting center Chris Myers. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Myers inked a 4-year deal, worth $25 million, including a fully guaranteed $14 million. This comes on the heels of the Texans losing their starting right guard Mike Brisiel to the Oakland Raiders to a 5 year deal worth up to $20 million dollars. The Texans were reeling after losing star defensive end Mario Williams jumped ship for Buffalo, and in a cap saving move the Texans cut…
