Rookie Mini Camp Notes: Day 2

teamminicamp

Day two is in the books for the Houston Texans rookie mini camp. Only one day remains on the start of the Texans 2013 football season, and there has been plenty of bright spots during this two-day stretch. Head Coach Gary Kubiak was absent from the first practice to attend his son’s graduation from Rice University, but was there for the second practice. Players looked fatigued during the first practice and the humidity was taking a toll on some players on the field. The second practice was short and crisp and the players looked more in tune with the practice. Day one…

Texans Keep DeLano Johnson

LoJohnson

The Houston Texans announced they have resigned outside linebacker DeLano Johnson who spent the entire 2012 season on the practice squad.  Johnson came to Houston as an undrafted free agent from Bowie State and made an impression in training camp to make the practice squad. Johnson is a gifted athlete who measures at 6-4 and 280 lbs. which is much-needed size at the outside linebacker position. It will be interesting to see if Johnson can make a bigger step for the Texans this offseason and put himself in position to make the final 53 coming out of the 2013 training camp. Something…

Meet and Greet: The Texans Practice Squad

JeffMaehl

The cuts and claims appear to be done for the time being and the Houston Texans have set their 53 active roster and their practice squad for the 2012 season. Even though they are not on the active team, they are still an important part of the team and could still be vital options later in the season. Last season was a prime example how the practice squad came into play when eight players were signed to the active squad during the season. A new year and new names, the Texans have put together a solid group of young players that could see…

SOTT talks to Delano Johnson

LoJohnson

After a full week of training camp in the books, we had the chance to talk to rookie outside linebacker from Bowie State, Delano Johnson. Better known as “Lo”, Johnson at 6-4 280 lbs. looks the part of being an NFL linebacker. Gifted with rare talents, Johnson on Saturday deflected three passes, one on a pass rush and two while dropping in coverage. The most impressive part was how high he jumped for one of the deflections. His athleticism is something to watch and lucky for us we have seen how hard Johnson has been working out and learning during training camp.   Podcast: Play…

Training Camp: Rejuvenated

James Casey, #86

With Day Eight in the books, the Houston Texans had an upbeat practice which turned into only a morning session. For two hours, the team was running well and both the offense and defense had some good moments out at the Reliant practice fields.   – According to Head Coach Gary Kubiak, three starters are set to return to practice on Monday. Kareem Jackson, Duane Brown and Andre Johnson have all made it clear they are ready to go but the Texans, being gun-shy from last season’s injury bug, are taking every precaution with their players. – Defensive lineman Sonny Harris left practice early…

Texans Training Camp: Another Scare

Keshawn-Martin

Full pads were on for the 6th day of camp and the Houston Texans did receive a scare to one of their star players.     - Duane Brown, starting left tackle, got kicked on his left ankle when he got rolled up from behind. Brown played two plays after the incident but couldn’t continue. After evaluation they shut him down for the day and he headed in for an MRI. The MRI came back negative and was only deemed a bone bruise. He has been listed as day-to-day. Rashad Butler will fill in at the left tackle position until Brown comes back….

The Rookies: Digging Deep: Part 3

IMG_1119

With the Houston Texans getting into the flow of OTAs we wanted to look at the 2012 rookie class a little closer. We enlisted the help of Shane Hallam of Draft Countdown to give us some quick thoughts on the entire rookie class of the Texans. We asked Hallam also who the rookies compare to that are in the NFL which give us a baseline for what to look for when camp opens up. Take a look at let us know what you think.   The Rookies (Part 3)     Delano Johnson – Very intriguing pass rush prospect.  Really nice frame and powerful bull rusher.  Played special teams throughout…

Texans Profiles: The UDFA

Houston Texans Fans

Very impressed with the Houston Texans draft class, the team did not stop after the draft getting some more work done. The Texans front office has put together what appears to be one of the more impressive undrafted rookie free agent groups we have seen in some time. The class is headlined with three players who in our estimation have real shots at making the Texans roster, and the reason why these three did not get drafted is still puzzling. Even still, this 2012 draft crop of rookies has the chance to be one of the deepest in Texans’ history. The Texans…
