Due Diligence: The Wide Receivers
During the past few weeks of Houston Texans OTAs, it seems like one of the biggest question marks with the current makeup of the team is the lack of veteran presence in the wide receiver position group. Head Coach Gary Kubiak has made it clear that there is a possibility that the Texans will be looking for a possible veteran to bring into Houston. All that has been said with Andre Johnson sidelined is that Kevin Walter is the only wide receiver with game experience and the next in line is second year wide receiver Lestar Jean, who has learned the system from…

Report: Dwight Jones Quits Texans
Per Evan Silva of ProFootballTalk.com and RotoWorld.com, 2012 Texans Undrafted Free Agent wide receiver Dwight Jones of University of North Carolina has quit the team. Jones was once a promising prospect whom many draft analysts had rated as high as a 3rd or 4th round pick in the draft. As the 2011 season continued, his stock fell considerably as many questioned his work ethic and commitment. Of course Texans fans will recall Jones famously called himself “the next Andre Johnson” in a local radio interview. The Texans have yet to confirm this and reports from today’s post-OTA presser with HC Gary Kubiak state that Jones has been…
No Puppies: Texans OTAs
Some more notes from the first week of Texans 2012 OTAs. – Second year cornerback Roc Carmichael feels fortunate to have sat out his first season and learn the defensive scheme, and he felt that his playing time would have been little with him behind in the learning process with the lockout last season. He also felt fortunate to use the 2011 season as a “redshirt” season to learn from Danieal Manning and Johnathan Joseph, and he feels that Dwight Jones could make the team. With the move, the Texans will save $2.5 million in cap space heading into the 2012 season.
