The POGs: San Francisco Edition
RELIANT STADIUM – The second pre-season game featured two heavy weight playoff hopefuls in the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers, last year’s NFC Championship finalist. With the firey Jim Harbaugh at the 49ers helm, most fans were anticipating a physical, regular-season-style game – and they got it, but it was the 49ers who left the game banged up in a 20-9 loss. As opposed to last week’s game, this week featured some clearer options for “Players of the Game”. The Texans’ passing attack was led by Matt Schaub, who was seemingly able to move the ball…
Digging Deep: San Francisco Edition
The Texans moved to 2-0 on Saturday night with their 20-9 win over the San Francisco 49ers, a team who played for the NFC championship last year. It was another very encouraging performance from the squad. I took a look at some key numbers from the game to find out what the Texans did well and what they need to work on. Positives: 79% Matt Schaub’s completion percentage (11 of 14) for the game against one of the NFL’s best defenses. Schaub came out firing and looked good connecting on 20+ yard passes to Keshawn Martin and Andre Johnson. He…
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: 49ers Edition
The Houston Texans opened their preseason home debut against the San Francisco 49ers which was considered a good barometer to see where they are in terms of progress this year. The 49ers are a big physical team with the same offensive philosophy as the Texans as a run heavy team, and a team that runs a stout 3-4 defense ranking ahead of the Texans against the run. This was one of the stingiest defenses in the red zone and they proved that Saturday. The Texans went into the game ready for a scrap and came out of the battle on the gridiron with…
Texans 53 Man Roster | Version 1
This is a good time to see if we can put together a legitimate 53 man roster and practice squad for the Texans in our first prediction of the preseason. There have been players making a case to make the team like Trindon Holliday, Sunny Harris, Shiloh Keo and others. Take a look at our first prediction of the 53 man roster. Offense (24) Quarterbacks (2) Matt Schaub, T.J. Yates Notes: Head Coach Gary Kubiak has said he will not go into another season without 3 quarterbacks on the 53 man roster, to avoid the issues from 2011. If Case…
Texans Hot Button: Trindon Holliday
The great thing about preseason is there are always storylines the fans love to run with and the early part of preseason look no further than the Houston Texans’ return man, Trindon Holliday. He captured the attention of Texans’ fans everywhere with his electric 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers. If you have been following the Texans, we all know he is gifted with unreal speed. At the NFL combine (2010), he ran a 4.34 second 40 yard dash and he impressed enough to be drafted by the Texans. After a thumb and hamstring issue that put him as…

Texans Extend Duane Brown
At the beginning of the week, word came out of Reliant that the Houston Texans were in talks to resign their starting left tackle, Duane Brown. The rumors became truth today when Brown and the Texans agreed on a new deal. Duane Brown signed 6-year $53.4 million extension. $22.08 guaranteed. $8.9 million average. — John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) August 16, 2012 The new deal for Brown will start in 2013 and will keep him in Houston until the 2018 season, having him as the cornerstone left tackle for years to come. Brown had his best season as a professional…
Texans Players to Watch: San Francisco Edition
The San Francisco 49ers are coming to Reliant on Saturday and the Houston Texans will get a good test in their second preseason contest. With the starters headed for more work this game (around half of the football game), the Texans will have a real test with one of the NFC favorites to make it to the Super Bowl. Whispers around camp were pointing out that the Texans are expecting Head Coach Jim Harbaugh to treat this more than a preseason game, especially after last year’s embarrassment by the score of 30-7 . The Texans will pull the reigns off the offense, showing a…
SOTT talks to Jared Crick

Crick who is coming off a neck issue that has kept him out since the beginning of camp, has gotten back to the grind to make his NFL debut against the San Francisco 49ers this Saturday. See what Crick had to say about his health, what he has done to get back to the field and what veterans have helped him get off on the right foot in his NFL career. You can follow Patrick on Twitter.
