The Giving Mood: Texans Mini-Camp
Here are some notes from the Texans last day of Mini-Camp sessions: – Wade Phillips via his twitter account praised the work the young players put in these last few days at mini-camp. He pointed out that second year cornerback Brandon Harris had a good three days at mini-camp and picked off a pass today. Also talked about linebackers Whitney Mercilus, Tim Dobbins and Bryan Braman doing good work at their respective positions. A surprising name came up in Ra’Shon Harris, a second year nose tackle out of Oregon, who has also practiced well during mini-camp. – Head Coach Gary Kubiak’s and General Manager…
Kubiak and Smith Contracts Extended
According to Houston Fox Sports’ Mark Berman, the Houston Texans and owner Bob McNair have extended the contracts of Head Coach Gary Kubiak and General Manager Rick Smith. Both were brought into the Texans organization in 2006 to fix the issues with the Texans franchise and the tandem looks like they have the franchise heading in the right direction. Together the two have posted a 47-49 overall record and completed their first AFC South division title and first playoff win in 2011 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Slowly turning into one of the more complete and professionally run organizations in the NFL, the two were…
Gary is Still Mad: Texans Mini-Camp
Here are a few notes from the Texans Mini-Camp on Wednesday: Texans Mini-Camp Day 2 – Head Coach Gary Kubiak voiced his concern over a sluggish practice today. He felt like the team was saving themselves for the last day of mini-camp and called today a loss if they were playing. – Rookie defensive end Jared Crick did not finish practice today due to heat related issues. – Rookie guard Brandon Brooks weighed in less than his Tuesday weight. Kubiak explained that he (Brooks) has to stay on top of his weight because it will affect him from a performance…
What Houston Texans Fans Won’t Admit: The Rebuttal
Today was going to be a day where I was going to sit back and relax but something was released today that called me to the computer. I try to be welcoming of all the bloggers out there that cover the Houston Texans but once again the AFC South blogger for Bleacher Report put out quality material pertaining to the Texans and even choice words for the fan base. The longtime Indianapolis Colts fan and blogger is now covering the Texans and has some choice ideas for the Texans fan base and vision of their team. I don’t doubt that the blogger said above…
Pursuit Of A Veteran Blocking Tight End
With Owen Daniels, James Casey and Garret Graham, the tight end position appeared to be a strength for the Houston Texans but is now possibly a weakness, as pointed out by Kubiak last week, “We’ve normally had a physical tight end around here to go with O.D. (Owen Daniels). We don’t have that presence right now. That’s something Rick (Smith) and I are looking at.” Is Daniel Graham the Only Answer Available? One viable option is former first round pick and veteran Daniel Graham. Although not official, Adam Schefter has reported via Twitter that the Titans plan to…
Gary is Mad: Texans Mini-Camp
Here are a few notes from the Texans Mini-Camp on Tuesday: Texans Mini-Camp Day 1 – Head Coach Gary Kubiak showed his displeasure for rookie offensive lineman Brandon Brooks for being over weight on weigh- ins today. Kubiak wants Brooks to get his weight down for on-field reasons. This will be something to watch in the coming months. – The Texans have invited wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker, linebackers Keith Browner, Prescott Burgess, and former Texans fullback (’02-’05) Moran Norris to mini-camp. Kubiak was pleased with all four workouts and said all four players will be here for the remainder of mini-camp. A decision will be…
Texans Rookie Pulse
The Houston Texans landed a solid draft class and now, with mini camp upon us, the team is going to look for the rookies to make an impact on the 2012 season. In this segment we are looking at the Draft Class of the Texans and who will make the biggest impact on the 2012 season. Now we know it is early, but expect some contributions by this class. Last season it was J.J. Watt, Brooks Reed and T.J. Yates who all proved to be big parts of the Texans’ playoff run in 2011, and the Texans are looking for the same from…
Due Diligence: The Wide Receivers
During the past few weeks of Houston Texans OTAs, it seems like one of the biggest question marks with the current makeup of the team is the lack of veteran presence in the wide receiver position group. Head Coach Gary Kubiak has made it clear that there is a possibility that the Texans will be looking for a possible veteran to bring into Houston. All that has been said with Andre Johnson sidelined is that Kevin Walter is the only wide receiver with game experience and the next in line is second year wide receiver Lestar Jean, who has learned the system from…
