Houston Texans “Super Draft” 2002-2012

300758-reliant-stadium

It’s not often when you get a chance to do something that takes vision and time to put together, which turns into one of the more interesting posts we have done in some time. We enlisted the help of  TX Cleaver, Big Ron and Jake Langerkamp, who have been fans with the team since it’s inception in 2002. We asked all three to join us in a mock draft using, as players to draft from, only the Houston Texans’ players who have ever suited up for the team since 2002. All three were intrigued by the idea and immediately accepted the offer.  Of course, we only used four…

Know Your Opponent with JoeCNC

Know-Your-Opponent-2

After the inexplicable defeat suffered at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, the Houston Texans are decidedly looking forward to the contest for week 7 versus the only other 5-1 team in the AFC (and only other team over .500 in the AFC, for that matter) the Baltimore Ravens. The Texans come into the game having faced the Ravens in 6 previous games and the Texans record versus the Ravens is a discouraging 0-6. The Texans are looking for a definitively different outcome this Sunday at Reliant and fans want to know what their squad is up against. So…

Does Keshawn Martin Have Return Ability?

KMart

With the most recent moves that the Houston Texans have made in order to adjust their roster with the loss of Brian Cushing, the Texans cut Trindon Holliday and moved Keshawn Martin into the returner role. Most fans thought that Martin was the original player that would take over that role when he was drafted and it would allow them to cut Jacoby Jones. When the Texans started the regular season they never imagined that they would be dead last in the league in kickoff and punt returns. Now with the unexpected injuries that have occurred, the Texans needed to…

But He is a Good Blocking Wide Receiver

IMG_0098

This seems to be the battle cry when it comes to fans talking about the wide receiver opposite of Andre Johnson, “but he is a good blocking wide receiver“. Unfortunately for Houston Texans fans and their offense, it sometimes seems acceptable NOT to have a wide receiver that has game breaking ability. I enjoy the idea of having a possession wide receiver in offense but they have to either be a touchdown machine or command some defenders when they are on the field. The Texans, like we all know, are deficient at the wide receiver position despite having a top one in Johnson on the roster. Now don’t get me wrong,…

Texans Release Jacoby Jones

JacobyJones

According to Houston Fox Sports news reporter, Mark Berman, the Houston Texans have released wide receiver Jacoby Jones. Early words are that the Texans tried to trade Jones, but had no takers. With the move, the Texans will save $2.5 million in cap space heading into the 2012 season. Jones has been highly criticized for his lack of production since coming to Houston in 2007 and after signing a new contract in 2011 with a three-year deal worth $10.5 million, $3 million of that being guaranteed. With 127 career receptions, Jones just never took off for the Texans and could not replace Kevin…

The Enigma: Jacoby Jones

Jacoby Jones

The second installment from D. Roque Enigma- something hard to understand or explain (Merriam-Webster) Synonyms- puzzle, head scratcher, mystery, problem, question   ENIGMA:QUESTION Why is wide receiver Jacoby Jones still on the Houston Texans roster? This is a big question that is on the minds of Texans fans. He has somehow eluded being cut from the roster when other players of need are being released, and lost to free agency. Texans fans have wondered why Jacoby wasn’t cut to make cap room when players like Eric Winston (Kansas City Chiefs), Mario Williams (Buffalo Bills), and Mike Brisiel (Oakland Raiders) left…

The Issue with Jacoby Jones

JacobyJones

At the beginning of the 2011 season, Jacoby Jones was  given a 3-year $10.5 million dollar contract with $3 million in guarantees and was considered a key free agent coming out of the 2010 season.  To call the move questionable is an understatment, but the production has been non-existent in his five years with the Texans. As a Texan, he has had 127 catches for 1,741 yards and 11 touchdowns (5 seasons) , with 51 receptions and 562 yards in 2010 being his best statistical output as a professional. The unfortunate thing is that the “one blunder” that Texans fans will always remember happened in the Divisional…

D-Day Is Upon Us

Mario Williams

With the league year on the horizon and the new season set to start on Tuesday (March 13th) at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time, the Houston Texans like every team in the NFL will have to have their current roster under the $120.6 million dollar cap figure. Heading into Tuesday, it will be crystal clear on what the Texans’ roster will look like and the direction they will look heading into the free agency period and NFL Draft. The Texans’ fan base will get some ease to their minds, especially with the soon to be decided future of Mario Williams. Williams’ contract future…

How Close are the Texans?

Rick Smith

With the 2011 season in the books, the NFL now switches into one of the most exciting times of the year, the offseason. This is where teams try to find answers and fix issues from the previous year, and find the magical formula for the 2012 season. There is some time until teams report for training camp, something like 7 months, not to mention the free agency period and NFL draft. Focus turns to the Houston Texans, and the question that comes to mind is How Close Are the Texans, to achieving the ultimate goal? The Super Bowl.

Texans Offseason To Do List

Andre Johnson, Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter at 2011 Training Camp

With the offseason upon us, and the Houston Texans coaches in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl to coach the AFC. The Texans have begun another offseason and with games like the East-West Shrine game and the NFLPA game in the books, the scouting department is in full swing getting their scouting sheets done for the upcoming NFL draft in April.
