FB James Casey has agreed to a 3-year deal with the Eagles worth $14.5 million — Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) March 13, 2013 The Philadelphia Eagles have signed free agent James Casey who has been with the Houston Texans since 2009. Casey was drafted in 2009 in the 5th round (152nd overall) in the NFL draft out of Rice University. He had a career year in 2012 with 34 catches and 330 yards with 3 touchdowns. Used as a fullback in Houston, the thinking was he was not being utilized correctly in the Texans offense with his role. More of…

Two Houston Texans made the 2012 USA Today’s All Joe Team and they were fullback James Casey and special teams star Bryan Braman. Both players were key parts of the 2012 team and were put on this recognized post season team released by USA Today. The criteria of the team is as follows: About the team: The All-Joe team was created in 1992 by longtime USA TODAY Sports NFL writer Larry Weisman as a tribute to Joe Phillips, a 14-year defensive lineman who did yeoman’s work for the Kansas City Chiefs that season. His effort in the trenches didn’t lead to…

With high hopes and expectations, the Houston Texans looked primed for a run to the Super Bowl before the season started. As we know, the road ended before we knew it and then came the evaluation period to see what exactly went wrong. Call it scheme, coaching or just general play of players, it was an upsetting end to a promising season. We looked at the most disappointing Texans of the 2012 season, and here is the short list. Ben Tate After a 942 yard 2011 season, Ben Tate rushed for 279 yards in 2012 and was relegated to…

It’s that time of year to close the books on the 2012 season and start looking at the 2013 Houston Texans and the first order of business is their own free agents. With 21 potential free agents on the horizon, there are no real Big Money players but there are one or two current players, in our estimation, that are a necessity to keep in Houston. We take a quick look at the free agents on the current roster and give our quick looks at each one. Free agency begins on March 12, the first day of the new League Year….

This is the section of our SOTT Mid Season Report card and we will run through every position group for the Houston Texans. We focus on the quarterbacks and running backs in this post and give our thoughts on the position group. The Quarterbacks and Running backs Matt Schaub: Talk about a new player and new leader, Schaub has been better than ever for the Texans. His pocket awareness and decision making abilities are much better this season and he has been the biggest difference for the offense. It was apparent the offense took a step back last season when he went down…

To make a slight change from the talk of the season, we fast forward just a bit to what the Houston Texans will be facing when the off season hits. The Texans look to improve to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the division at Reliant Stadium this weekend. The foe is division rival Tennessee Titans, which come to Houston after winning their first game in overtime, 44-41 against the Detroit Lions. The Texans (and probably most fans) are riding a “Rocky Mountain High” into this game after beating Peyton Manning and the Broncos last week. But that was last week and this could be a trap game if the Boys in Steel Blue aren’t ready. Hopefully with the match-up being a home division game, it will push the Texans…

The Texans quietly march into Mile High Stadium this Sunday sporting a 2-0 record, facing what is by far their biggest test of the young season. The Texans, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, are the #2 ranked team in the NFL, but you’d never know it. Meanwhile, the Broncos are regrouping after a Monday night defeat against the Atlanta Falcons. The Broncos made several uncharacteristic mistakes, led by future hall of famer Peyton Manning throwing three interceptions. Even though the Texans are statistically the better team, including being undefeated, they are a 1 point underdog, and rightfully so. Respect is…

The final real tune up for the Houston Texans’ starters will be this coming Saturday night, and they will encounter a good test with the New Orleans Saints. The accurate arm of Drew Brees will be a good test for the Texans’ secondary, who were torched in the 2011 regular season by the Saints’ passing attack. A new season and new issues, the Texans have some kinks to work out on both offense and defense before decisions are made on personnel when the Miami Dolphins come to Reliant in week one. Despite a good showing against the San Francisco 49ers, there were a…

The second preseason game is in the books and the Houston Texans came out with a win over the San Francisco 49ers, 20-9. As always, there was plenty news and notes from the game and some players making some noise to stay with the Texans into week 1. Game two of the preseason has helped separate some players from others and let fans get a better idea on how the coaches and front office might be thinking with personnel. After a slow start offensively, Head Coach Gary Kubiak left the offensive starters the entire first half to get them some rhythm, which they responded…
