Quick Look: Texans 2013 Free Agents

Glover Quina nd Brice McCain

It’s that time of year to close the books on the 2012 season and start looking at the 2013 Houston Texans and the first order of business is their own free agents. With 21 potential free agents on the horizon, there are no real Big Money players but there are one or two current players, in our estimation, that are a necessity to keep in Houston. We take a quick look at the free agents on the current roster and give our quick looks at each one.   Free agency begins on March 12, the first day of the new League Year….

Mid Season Report Card: Special Teams

IMG_1831

This is the section of our SOTT Mid Season Report card and we will run through every position group for the Houston Texans. We focus on the special teams in this post and give our thoughts on the position group.   The Special Teams Shayne Graham: We have been very impressed with his field goal accuracy, which is why he is one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history. The only issue is his leg strength on long field goals and especially kickoffs. Currently, he is 13-15 in field goals (51 is the long) and in 48 kickoffs he only has 11…

The Rundown: Titans Edition

GQBCJJ

It is still hard to believe that we would say, at any point, that the Houston Texans are 4-0, even after they beat the Tennessee Titans 38-14. The Texans fell flat for a short time in the first half when the score was 14-7 going into halftime, but thanks to Titans right tackle David Stewart he woke up the defense in a big way. Stewart pulled Brooks Reed‘s hair, threw a hay maker that landed on Tim Jamison’s head, and started anything he could with any player in the Deep Steel Blue on Sunday. 24 unanswered points later buried the Titans and…

The Bubble Situation

JesseNading

The clock is ticking on the final 53 man roster for the Houston Texans which is due August 31st across the NFL, with the practice squad the following day. With the first cuts announced and with no real big surprises with the initial releases, the ugly part of NFL life is coming up. There will be 22 players in the unemployment line heading into the weekend, with a possibility of 8 of those players being signed to the practice squad. There is always a surprise cut to be announced and other players to be scouted for the active or practice squads from those released from other NFL teams. With…

Texans that are on the Fringe

Sherrick McManis

With training camp closing in, the Houston Texans will be faced with some tough decisions with their roster heading into week 1. I know this may be premature talk but the reality has to set in, NFL teams are always looking for the younger and cheaper options for their teams. Last season, the Texans were able to have rookies, both drafted and undrafted, make an impact on the season and fill in when necessary. Throw in some key in-season signings, the Texans were able to weather the storm when it came to injuries. This season the Texans have already lost 19 players from their 2011 team,…

Meet Your Newest Texan: Thaddeus Gibson

The Houston Texans this morning signed outside linebacker, Thaddeus Gibson to the practice squad. Gibson was worked out on Monday morning and ended up being offered a practice squad contract.   Gibson was drafted in the 4th round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers (116th overall). Gibson has bounced around to make the Texans his 4th team in two years, he also played for the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins.

Responsibility Falls on Front Office with Mario Out

Mario Williams

With the unfortunate news Mario Williams is out with a torn pectoral muscle after recording his 5th sack in as many games Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, the Houston Texans are left scrambling for help at the outside linebacker position.   It is understandable that other players will have to fill the role of Mario Williams, but let’s be honest rookie Brooks Reed can fill in admirably, but will not draw the attention Williams did. Also, with Bryan Braman and Jesse Nading sitting in the wings maybe in line to get snaps, the Texans outside linebackers are pretty weak after Connor Barwin and Reed.  …

Texans Rumblings 9.7.2011

Here are some internet articles of the Houston Texans across the internet.

Houston Texans bring back Jesse Nading

Jesse Nading has returned to the Houston Texans as apart of the practice sqaud. Nading has done enough in preseason to prove he deserves a spot in Houston, don’t be too surprised if you see Nading apart of the active roster before the season ends. Nading originally came to the Texans as an undrafted free agent from Colorado State in 2008 and has only appeared in 6 games. In those 6 games he has 16 tackles and 1/2 sack from the defensive end position.

Texans Practice Squad Still Has Room

The Houston Texans named seven players to their practice squad heading into the 2011 season and have some very interesting prospects on the squad. Faced with some tough decisions on personnel the Texans kept some players who look like with a year of work could contribute down the road in a Texans uniform. As of today the Texans have room for one more player on their practice squad, and early rumors are stating Jesse Nading might be a candidate for the last spot on the practice squad. Here is the list.
