Is Trindon Holliday A Luxury?
Recently, the Houston Texans had to make roster adjustments due to safety Quintin Demps breaking his forearm. The Texans had to add another safety to the fold while cutting someone to stay at the league required 53 man roster. The Texans resigned safety Troy Nolan back to the roster while cutting quarterback John Beck. Before the cut was made, a debate amongst Texans fans and media sparked about who would be the player that the Texans cut to make room for Nolan. The first and most common name that came up was Trindon Holliday. Holliday was the least likely player that…
Texans Waive John Beck
The Houston Texans have waived third string quarterback John Beck to clear room for the recent addition of safety Troy Nolan. Beck, who won a spot on the roster with his good play during the 2012 preseason, was an asset with his knowledge of the offense. The move comes as a bit of a surprise especially with the quarterback situation from last season and the injuries that happened to the position group. With Beck being waived, it leaves the Texans with two active quarterbacks (Matt Schaub and T.J. Yates) and one on the practice squad (Case Keenum). Beck was a 2nd round…
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: Vikings Edition
The Minnesota Vikings came to Reliant Stadium to play the Houston Texans in the final preseason game for the two ball clubs. The Texans and Vikings started their second team offenses and defenses for this game. Both Teams moved the ball with rather significant ease, and the game turned out to be a shootout. At the end of regulation if you were to look at the stats alone it would be hard to see how the Texans managed to win. The Texans were out performed stats wise, but put together an effort that allowed them to pull out yet another…
The Rundown: Texans vs. Vikings
Here are a few notes from tonights game against the Minnesota Vikings: – D.J. Bryant has stated a case to make the Texans as a practice squad player. He was active in pass rush and in run game defense. He has shown flashes of his pass rush capability throughout the season. – DeVier Posey was better late than never with his first catch of his NFL career. He caught the ball, took a hit and showed his speed for an 80 yard touchdown. He showed some big play capability which is exactly why the Texans drafted him. – Quarterback…
Texans: Back Burner Issues
Houston Texans’ fans were concerned with two big situations when first coming into camp, the wide receiver situation and the right side of the offensive line. Now heading past the halfway point of the preseason, the recent play of young wide receivers Keshawn Martin and Lestar Jean has calmed the wide receiver worries a bit. As for the right side of the offensive line, it looks like Antoine Caldwell has the right guard position under control while the right tackle position is still being sorted out between Derek Newton and Rashad Butler. If you have been keeping up with the Texans, you have been paying attention to those story lines and know what is…
The Rundown: Texans vs. Carolina
The first preseason game is in the books and the Houston Texans looked good on their opening game of the 2012 preseason. Despite some turnovers and red zone issues that should work themselves out, the Texans beat the Carolina Panthers 26-13. It was a good start for the Texans even though the starters were limited and the reserves saw the majority of the playing time starting in the second quarter. Here are a few thoughts from the Preseason Opener. - Tim Dobbins (pictured above) was all over the field against the Panthers and played like the seasoned veteran he is. He was…
SOTT talks to John Beck
After Wednesday’s practice, we had a chance to talk to quarterback John Beck and it was a great experience to sit and pick the mind of this 6 year pro. Beck let us into his transition from Washington to Houston and how much he has to work to get Kubiak’s offense. Also he said how great it was to be in a situation building off from last season, and he also let us know how important Matt Schaub is to the Texans. You can follow Patrick on Twitter. He is the Editor of State of the Texans and is a draft…
Training Camp: Making Impressions
On Day Three of the Houston Texans training camp, the shoulder pads and live contact took place at Reliant. After plenty of walk through work and no contact, that all quickly changed. Check out our camp notes from Day Three: – Head Coach Gary Kubiak pushed his team a little harder in day three with pads on and the Texas heat. It was evident which players were ready for this heat, and plenty of players got tired out there on Monday. – The offense came out with plenty of false starts especially from the young guys. Fullback Derrell Smith had some…
Texans Training Camp: The Opening Act
Today was the opening day of Texans 2012 Training Camp, and there was a buzz in the air. So much 5,012 fans showed up as early as 2 a.m. before the gates opened at 7 a.m. Plenty of notes on today’s camp. Camp Notes – The first hour of practice was outside, but was soon moved inside. The reason was that they wanted the team to get “acclimated” to the heat. – Offensive lineman Kasey Studdard was signed to take the place of Thomas Austin because of a hamstring injury. Austin was on the bike majority of practice. Also punter Brett…
Texans F.A. Additions Pulse
With the season still about six weeks away and possibly more signings along the way, we have decided to look at the free agent signings the Houston Texans have made this off-season. The names the Texans have brought in are not considered big splashes by any stretch, but there is a possibility a few of these free agent additions could prove vital for the Texans in 2012. In 2011, the signings of Johnathan Joseph, Danieal Manning and Lawrence Vickers proved to be great signings. Joseph and Manning were big reasons for the change of culture for the Texans defense, while Vickers came on…
