Training Camp: Making Impressions

TJYates

On Day Three of the Houston Texans training camp, the shoulder pads and live contact took place at Reliant. After plenty of walk through work and no contact, that all quickly changed.   Check out our camp notes from Day Three: – Head Coach Gary Kubiak pushed his team a little harder in day three with pads on and the Texas heat. It was evident which players were ready for this heat, and plenty of players got tired out there on Monday. – The offense came out with plenty of false starts especially from the young guys. Fullback Derrell Smith had some…

Competition Edition: Texans OTAs

Brandon Brooks

Some Tuesday Notes from OTAs.   – Seems like backup quarterback John Beck could possibly be putting himself in position to make the team. Beck has made it clear he is all ears with head coach Gary Kubiak and what he has to say to him about playing quarterback. Beck being familiar with the Texans’ offense, is helping the younger players on the field with the offense. His role is yet undetermined by the team, and looks to be in a battle with rookie quarterback Case Keenum for the teams 3rd quarterback spot. – Kevin Walter did not practice today he was sick and…

No Puppies: Texans OTAs

Reliant

Some more notes from the first week of Texans 2012 OTAs.   – Second year cornerback Roc Carmichael feels fortunate to have sat out his first season and learn the defensive scheme, and he felt that his playing time would have been little with him behind in the learning process with the lockout last season. He also felt fortunate to use the 2011 season as a “redshirt” season to learn from Danieal Manning and Johnathan Joseph, and he feels that Dwight Jones could make the team. Jones played at North Carolina while Carmichael was at Virginia Tech and Roc called him…

Impact Players Still in Houston

Andre Johnson

Despite the bevy of moves by the Houston Texans this offseason, the team is still in a good position to make noise during the 2012 season. With the losses of Eric Winston, Mike Brisiel, DeMeco Ryans and Jason Allen, the Texans on the surface seem to be losing important parts of the team. The fact remains the Texans still have the impact players who made a difference in the 2011 season, which resulted in an AFC South Division title and the franchise’s first ever playoff win. Now losing the players the Texans have lost in recent weeks has put a damper on…

How Close are the Texans?

Rick Smith

With the 2011 season in the books, the NFL now switches into one of the most exciting times of the year, the offseason. This is where teams try to find answers and fix issues from the previous year, and find the magical formula for the 2012 season. There is some time until teams report for training camp, something like 7 months, not to mention the free agency period and NFL draft. Focus turns to the Houston Texans, and the question that comes to mind is How Close Are the Texans, to achieving the ultimate goal? The Super Bowl.

Roundtable: Talking Ravens

There is always time to brainstorm so Mike and Pat decided to talk some football earlier today and some thoughts about the upcoming game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.   Mike and Pat cover all kinds of issues with the Texans performance in week 6, potential issues in the divisional playoff matchup and the thought of Wade Phillips leaving.   Have time to kill? Enjoy the read.

Let Us Ease Your Mind, Week 6 Rewind v. the Ravens

The phrase the Texans are playing with “house money” is getting old because if you ask us there is not doubt in our minds that the Texans can go into Baltimore and win this Sunday. Trust me, in your mind you are doubting the notion that it could happen, because the Baltimore Ravens are the cream of the crop of the AFC and have one of the best defenses in the NFL.   Yes this is all true, but the face remains the Texans week 6 contest against the Ravens was not as bad as the 29-14 score indicated….

The New Blood of the Houston Texans

With the outcome of Saturday’s contest it is a testament the job the Houston Texans’ front office did during the offseason.   Being labeled as incompetent by the Houston fan base, fans wondered what owner Bob McNair was thinking when he brought back Head Coach Gary Kubiak and General Manager Rick Smith for another opportunity with the Texans.

Monday Roundup: The Drum Beats On For the Texans

It was apparent that no one knew what to expect from the Houston Texans on Saturday as they strapped on the pads in a do or die game against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals. With the home field advantage, it proved the difference for a team that only had 11 players with playoff experience. The Texans made sure they added some more playoff experience with an epic victory for the franchise and city of Houston, by beating the Bengals 31-10.   The word playoffs was in the air and the Texans stepped up to the plate and delivered, despite coming into the game with…

Wild Card Weekend: Texans vs. Bengals

It is less than one day for the Houston Texans playoff debut this Saturday against the Cincinnati Bengals, and the city of Houston’s top is fixing to burst. With the city’s first playoff appearance in the NFL playoffs since 1993, the Texans will be looking for their first ever franchise playoff victory and first since 1991, when the Houston Oilers ruled the football landscape.   Now the Texans are on the main stage of playoff football and opening up the 2011 NFL playoffs by being the lead game on Saturday. The Texans have already faced the Bengals this season and won a nail biter…
