Texans First Cuts Announced

Omar-Gaither

The Houston Texans have released their first cuts of the preseason and getting to the league mandated 75 by Monday. The biggest surprises with the current list is Brett Hartmann, Derrell Smith and Nick Mondek. Nick Mondek was drafted in the 6th round in the 2012 NFL draft and was considered a project coming into the season.  He never really impressed at any level to get to the second round of cuts. Derrell Smith, who was making a position change from linebacker to fullback, never got going with the offense. Below are the first major moves of the preseason.   First Cuts of the Preseason (12)   Omar…

Due Diligence: The Wide Receivers

IMG_0584

During the past few weeks of Houston Texans OTAs, it seems like one of the biggest question marks with the current makeup of the team is the lack of veteran presence in the wide receiver position group. Head Coach Gary Kubiak has made it clear that there is a possibility that the Texans will be looking for a possible veteran to bring into Houston. All that has been said with Andre Johnson sidelined is that Kevin Walter is the only wide receiver with game experience and the next in line is second year wide receiver Lestar Jean, who has learned the system from…

The Rookies: Digging Deep: Part 3

IMG_1119

With the Houston Texans getting into the flow of OTAs we wanted to look at the 2012 rookie class a little closer. We enlisted the help of Shane Hallam of Draft Countdown to give us some quick thoughts on the entire rookie class of the Texans. We asked Hallam also who the rookies compare to that are in the NFL which give us a baseline for what to look for when camp opens up. Take a look at let us know what you think.   The Rookies (Part 3)     Delano Johnson – Very intriguing pass rush prospect.  Really nice frame and powerful bull rusher.  Played special teams throughout…

Overcoming the Odds: An Interview with Mario T. Louis

mario louis2

“I’m not the type to go out and boast and brag about my game, I just let my game talk for me only because I know the work and dedication I put into it so I just go out and perform.”  - Mario T. Louis, Houston Texans , Wide Receiver, Grambling State University   Being an Undrafted Free Agent isn’t standing in the way of Mario Louis’ drive to prove himself and push for that coveted roster spot. Texans faithful know we need help at the WR position, and although we drafted two receivers in the first five picks and…

Texans Release Jacoby Jones

JacobyJones

According to Houston Fox Sports news reporter, Mark Berman, the Houston Texans have released wide receiver Jacoby Jones. Early words are that the Texans tried to trade Jones, but had no takers. With the move, the Texans will save $2.5 million in cap space heading into the 2012 season. Jones has been highly criticized for his lack of production since coming to Houston in 2007 and after signing a new contract in 2011 with a three-year deal worth $10.5 million, $3 million of that being guaranteed. With 127 career receptions, Jones just never took off for the Texans and could not replace Kevin…

Texans Profiles: The UDFA

Houston Texans Fans

Very impressed with the Houston Texans draft class, the team did not stop after the draft getting some more work done. The Texans front office has put together what appears to be one of the more impressive undrafted rookie free agent groups we have seen in some time. The class is headlined with three players who in our estimation have real shots at making the Texans roster, and the reason why these three did not get drafted is still puzzling. Even still, this 2012 draft crop of rookies has the chance to be one of the deepest in Texans’ history. The Texans…

Texans Start Bringing in Prospects

Reliant1

The Houston Texans closing in on the NFL Draft are bringing in potential draft picks for some workouts. The news on players who are coming to visit Reliant is slowly trickling in and we will update the players who will be visiting leading up to the Draft in April. Majority of the players look like they could be late round draft picks or undrafted free agents invited to camp, and these guys are players who should not be overlooked. The Texans have done a good job on finding talent outside of the draft when it comes to undrafted players.     The…
